CulminatingAssignment: Create a Tourism Business

This project is worth 15% of your final grade.

Description:

Instructions:
Decide on your business

1. Decide what kind of tourism business you will create based on this list:

2. Choose a location for your business (country and city/location it is closest to)

3. Choose a business that you would like to run based on the type of tourism you chose in step #1. To

help you chose your business, research other businesses to help you with your ideas.

4. Create a name, slogan or other features that will help you sell your business.

Create a promotional piece to sell your business.

Present both to your teacher in a WeChat/Skype/etc discussion.

Build your business (include the following in your business plan)
1. Create a detailed list of services/activities that your business will offer (along with prices and a brief
description).

2. Outline your employment expenses:
a. Calculate how many people you will need to employ and what jobs they will do;
b. List what jobs you have available;
c. Calculate your total wage costs, assume all employees make an average of $46,000/year;
d. Calculate other expenses you will have in order to make your business run (like buying a
hotel, restaurant, tour busses, or other critically important parts of your business);
e. Calculate what you need to earn on average, in a year to make a profit by year 5.

i. What will your prices for your services need to be?
ii. How many customers will you need to serve?

3. Outline what businesses your business needs to connect to in order to draw in tourists (for example:
airlines, tourism agencies, natural parks…)
4. Describe how your business will draw tourists to it. What will you do to get customers?
5. Think of the services approach when creating your business, as this will help you with these steps

Sell your business (include in your presentation poster/slideshow)
1. Create a promotional/informational poster, which will inform and attract tourists to your business
2. Include images and text that describe your business (do not use full pages of text as it is hard to read –
think of an advertisement).
3. Include:

d. 1-2 maps

4. Be prepared to sell your business to your virtual classmates –know and be able to discuss your
business with more depth than your poster shows on its own. Anticipate questions from your potential

Steps:
1. Submit a one paragraph proposal to your teacher for feedback.

c. What ideas do you have so far?
d. Describe your business plan.

Provide an outline of:

b. Your list of jobs and number of total employees
c. The amount of sales (price + customers) you believe you will need to make in order to start making
a profit by year 5.
d. What businesses you need to connect to in order to be successful
e. How you will draw tourists into your business

3. Discuss how you will sell your business.

Provide the outline of your presentation poster/slideshow. Describe what you
plan to include on your poster. You should have a sufficient amount of material to effectively
communicate your business to others.

Then prepare your business plan and promotional presentation to present to your teacher.
