Guided Response:

You are required to substantively respond in writing on the discussion board to at least two of your colleagues by Day 7 (the following Monday). Respond to your peers as if they were other members of the team. Ask questions and make connections for how the strategy might be applicable across students in your classroom. As you review the posts submitted by your peers, some responses may also consider how your topic may be similar (or different) to others in our class. Consider asking additional clarifying questions or providing sources to extend the discussion.

This forum should be used as a scholarly platform to discuss similar or opposing ideas and career goals and to provide additional sources that you may have found helpful to your own learning and preparation.

Though two replies are the basic expectation, for deeper engagement and application of the material, you are encouraged to provide responses to any comments or questions others have given to you (including your instructor) before Day 7. This ongoing engagement in the discussion will deepen the conversation while providing opportunities to demonstrate your content expertise, critical thinking, and real-world experiences with this topic.

Hello Dr. Smith and classmates,

My role today will be as a special education teacher, which means I will advocate for students with disabilities. As a special education teacher, it will be my role not only to teach but to ensure “that all school officials and employees understand the importance of inclusion and how to best implement inclusion in all campus activities” (2020).

So one of the areas I can contribute to Huang’s IEP is by making sure that the classroom is adhering to the student’s IEP needs and requirements. As the IEP will contain very specific goals and modifications, a general teacher may follow the IEP so that they can make progress with the student or students.

The 2nd recommendation is since a special educator plays such an essential role in a student’s IEP is that I would develop the IEP for the student, “Possessing a complete understanding of legal and ethical parameters for providing education to special needs students” (2016). Once the development is finished, I would also implement the IEP.

EBP is an essential way of implementing the IEP, and as such, the first recommendation would be to have Huang work in groups of 4-5 daily so that he is not just learning from others but also socializing as well. The 2nd EBP I would implement would be visualization in math. Huang has been having trouble in math, and using visuals may help him. Accommodations made would be giving Huang as much time as needed to get things done. As long as he is getting the assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, nothing would have to change.

· Identify your role.

My role in the IEP process is Special Education Teacher. As a special education teacher, it is my duty to ensure that children with special needs or learning disabilities are advocated for and outside of my classroom. It is my job to teach all school administrators and employees the importance of inclusion. My job is to facilitate the best way to implement plans that allow all our students to get the same education of inclusion across our campus/school.

· Recommend two ways that you can contribute to Huang’s developing IEP in your selected role, using support from your readings or other scholarly sources.

Many recommendations could be made to assist with developing Huang’s IEP. The first recommendation I would make is to work with Huang on a one-on-one basis to meet his annual goals set for him. The second recommendation I would make is always following up with his parents to let them know about Huang’s progress and see how he is doing at home.

· Plan at least two EBP strategies and accommodations you would recommend for the proposed goals and objectives identified in Week Two.

The first EBP strategy I would implement for Huang is productive group work. Productive group work allows Huang to feel included. The way this works is by asking groups to do tasks that all group members can do successfully. Also to Ensure each group member personally responsible for one step in the task given. The second EBP strategy I would implement is Nurture- Meta Cognition. This strategy will allow Huang to make connections when reading and self-verbalizing when solving story math problems.

A scholarly search entails the ability to research from peer reviewed education sources and also the ability to consult experts in a particular field. There exists a lot of content both on print and also databases. The ability to differentiate between a good source and a source that is not authored by experts in that particular field is what determines the scholarly search.

Resources for conducting scholarly searchers include databases such as Google scholar and also university websites. Some databases such as google scholar offer an avenue to get mostly expert reviewed sources. A majority of the article located in such databases have been reviewed by a group of experts hence they form a good avenue for the searches. Also, university websites offer peer reviewed articles and they form a perfect avenue for conducting the scholarly searches.

To carry out the search, a number of aspects must be put into perspective. The first step is to locate the database. After locating the database such as google scholar, one types into the search bar the topic that is of interest. Key words must be chosen so that the search narrows down. After that, specific sources are sieved all through. Sources that look appropriate are then clicked on ad a study is carried on.

Hello Mr. Franklin,

I write to you today to explain an essential part of teaching and research. We can quickly type in a subject and find things millions of things in seconds, but it takes real time and patience to find proper investigation, which brings us to this letter’s point, scholarly search. The first thing you will notice about an academic article is that an author expertly writes it with credentials on the subject. They are also written for professionals or students in the field. All of the resources are verified with raw evidence. And it is essential for peer-reviewing.

With that in mind, here are three essential sources of information for conducting a scholarly research

1. Primary resources such as original works or being published in educational/academic journals.

2. Secondary resources- “reference materials – dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks” (2020).

3. Tertiary sources- It uses helps organize and locate secondary and primary sources

There are many places we can find scholarly research. As the internet will most likely be used the most, think of libraries, school, and even the search engine. As long as scholarly resources follow your search engine, it should provide you with a list of scholarly articles and journals.

The first step you would want is to know what you intend to search for too long, find a word you can delete, and try it as simple as possible. Once you have what you are searching in mind, open your tab and type it in your search engine. Once you have your words, type in scholarly articles, and it should come up with a list of your search. Remember, when doing research, the newer the article, the better.

Evidence-Based Instructional Methods and Research: Driving Force

As you have learned through the reading of the Instructor Guidance and course sources, action research is a tool used to build upon EBP in the field of special education. Action research allows for educators to contribute to a pool of research, while continuing to teach and assess the effectiveness of the instruction. This week, we have begun a discussion on the importance of scholarly sources and identifying action research studies.

Initial Post: Post a two-paragraph initial response that addresses the following areas using the discussion board forum:

Mr. Franklin wants to do some research on some strategies that could be used to encourage classroom behavior management. He comes to you as the special education teacher for guidance on where to start exploring the current body of research before he starts his own study.

Using what you have learned through the Ashford University Library modules:

· In one paragraph, explain to Mr. Franklin what a scholarly search entails.

· Identify at least two resources for conducting scholarly searches.

· Provide information as to where he can find these scholarly searches.

· Compose a one-paragraph description of the steps of an action research study for Mr. Franklin.
