Part 1: Leadership Vision

A leaders’ vision is meant to bring the team together to focus on different ways to achieve a common goal. Leaders’ vision is essential as it provides a roadmap and direction to where an organization envisions itself in the future.

My leadership vision is to lead the organization with fairness, integrity, and effective communication to develop my team to be creative towards realizing organizational goals.

Part 2: Leadership Goals

Personal Responsibility

As a leader, I believe that every action that an individual portrays within the organization should be able to bear the consequences of such actions. Therefore, through my responsibility as a goal, I will instill discipline in the organization that will encourage organizational members to take responsibility for their decisions. Further, through accepting the consequences that action brings forth, organizational members will learn valuable lessons from the consequences of their actions, whether they are successful or not. This will enable me to create an environment where organizational members are creative and cautious while enhancing discipline in the organization. In most cases, employees notice when a leader does not take responsibility for their actions or push the blame to other subordinates in the worst-case scenario.

Practice Self-Discipline

When leaders are making decisions, they may be tempted to make decisions that benefit themselves and not that with other organizational members in mind. However, as a leader, the primary focus must be the benefits of the followers and not that of the leader. An effective leader carefully considers all the available options and makes a decision that is best for the organization rather than individuals. Integrity develops whenever a leader makes decisions that are for the organization’s overall benefit and not for themselves. This way, attaining the organizational goals becomes a priority and can best be achieved through such acts of integrity.

Improve Communication Practices

Leaders are just as influential as their communication. Through improving communication within the organization, the roadmap to attaining the organizational goals becomes well laid out to all the organizational members. Additionally, through effective communication, a leader can dispense great ideas and actively mentor organizational members. However, when communication is not sufficient, organizational leaders can quickly fail to guide their team to realize the organizational vision effectively. Practical communication skills cannot be developed in a short time. It takes time and effort to create rapport with members, understand which style to use, and improve their conflict management skills.

Develop a Culture of Mentorship

Through fostering leadership to others, leaders’ mentor and create an organizational environment where every individual feels the organization favors their growth and development. However, the most important aspect of mentorship is identifying a members’ skills and developing them. This way, a leader would be able to develop a culture of employee development. Further, the culture of mentorship can best be attained through coaching, useful feedback, and paying close attention to how team members approach challenging tasks within the organization. The ability to let the organizational members solve some of the challenging tasks themselves empowers them and makes them creative to deal with arising challenges.

Develop Time Management Skills

Time management is a very crucial aspect of organizational success. The effectiveness of a team can best be realized through how they manage their time. Additionally, time is of any leader’s essence as they should be time-conscious, running projects within the scheduled time, and completing projects in time. A leader can be assured of the example they set when they are time conscious. With the time management skills, a leader can best achieve organizational objectives that will further enable them to attain the desired vision.

Part 3: Action Plan

Improving the leadership goals require dedication and an ensuing plan that outlines the actions and activities that will be carried out to ensure that the organizational vision is realized. The following are some of the action plans that will enhance the development of my leadership goals. To realize personal responsibility, I must understand some of the attributes required for effective decision-making and what skills are required to realize its vision. The first action is to take a step back and realize key business objectives if there is no exact list to realize the organizational goals and vision.

First, I must create a list outlining some of the required skills for effective decision making. Since personal responsibility is based on the type of decision that an individual makes, it is crucial to determine some of the skills needed to make valuable decisions (Shaked, 2020). This way, those responsible for decision making can be held personally responsible for the type of decisions that they make. Additionally, when a particular department requires particular skills in decision-making, it is vital to ensure that a distinct profile is created to take care of such a department. Further, gaining basic knowledge of the impact that decisions have on the organization can help the organizational members determine the need to make some decisions and so work to ensure that their decisions are well-thought and achieve the organization’s interest and not personal interests (Shaked, 2020).

In practicing self-discipline, there are necessary steps that can be followed to ensure an improvement on the skills that are needed for sufficient self-discipline. First, it is essential to lay down the expectations; clearly, this will enable the organization to connect todays actions with tomorrow’s results (Meadows, 2021). Therefore, the organizational members will be able to have an understanding of what behavior and actions are required to meet the objectives. Further, it is essential to know what is happening with the people who report to you, and this encourages being in sync with the work-related developments. Lastly, it is also useful to know the self-discipline actions that employees take that propagate particular results.

Communication is a critical tool that strengthens organizational performance. Communication can best be improved through learning and experience. The basic model through which an individual can learn is through reading journals and books related to communication. This will ensure that basic knowledge about communication is gained and the appropriate actions related to communication that can be adopted to ensure cohesiveness and dedication in an organization. Through communication, the leader can demonstrate the organizations’ mission (Raba, 2017). Another way to improve communication skills is through symposiums and training to impart communication skills, and the trainers should be well conversant with communication skills. In the past, I was not an active listener, and most of the time, my communication was one-sided. However, this has completely changed over the past few years as I encourage two-way traffic communication with more listening than speaking.

To effectively mentor organizational members and ensure they develop and grow requires a dedication that ensures close monitoring of the different talents that these people have. To scout effectively, it is crucial to understand the different ways that scouting happens. After understanding the different ways how to scout, it would be impactful if the leader closely monitors organizational members to ensure that he understands what they can do better and in what department they would be more effective (Raba, 2017). The leader can also learn different mentoring skills and which one is more effective than the other and employ that sufficient.

Time management skills are best learned through experiences, and there are no institutions to help improve time management skills without an individuals’ self-drive. However, prioritizing and having a time table is one way time management skills can be enhanced. Leaders should emphasize the need to be time conscious and flexible when it comes to time management. The skills are crucial for the practical realization of the organizational objectives and vision. Additionally, time management can be enhanced through having an activity tracker that alerts an individual when a task is approaching for them to prioritize.

Ethics and Integrity

Ethics, integrity, and leadership are inseparable, and this is because leadership without integrity cannot effectively lead the organization to success. Therefore, as a leader, it is vital to maintain high standards of integrity. Below are some of the way I will maintain high integrity standards as a leader;

The first way to ensure that I maintain a high level of integrity is through maintaining my words. Whenever I say I would do anything, I must ensure that it is done as told before. Usually, there are utterances around rewards and improving some conditions. I will ensure that I keep my words to demonstrate high integrity standards. Another way to maintain high standards of integrity is through making fair decisions. One wrong decision can lead to a lack of respect from the entire team, so I will ensure that I make fair decisions (Sosik et al., 2019). More so, when it comes to hiring, employee promotions, and employee development, leaders should be cautious as these are some of the areas where boas can be witnessed.

Additionally, ensuring that deserved and just practices when it comes to promotions and honesty will ensure integrity is enhanced in the organization (Engelbrecht et al., 2017). Maintaining high integrity standards is honest communication, where credits are given where it is due and no judgment in whatever the case. When a leader is honest in how they communicate, they are likely to demonstrate high integrity standards.

Ethics and integrity are almost related, as in most cases, ethical practices heavily rely on an individual’s integrity. Leaders with integrity are likely to be ethical. The best way to enhance ethics in an organization is to define and align values and create an organizational culture embedded in such values (Sosik et al., 2019). Also, through ensuring that the recruitment and selection process focuses on individuals with similar values. Lastly, through leading by example, the organizational members will see the leadership’s commitment to the goals and maintain such values.
