For this assignment, you will write and present a transcript that brings together the major points explored in your Weeks 5 & 7 deliverables.

This assignment is intended to explore various theories and influences regarding human development. You will use research skills and communicate and support your ideas using clear and logical writing.

Assignment Details:

Perform the following tasks:

· Complete the reading assignment and the interactive lesson before attempting this assignment.

· Complete one of the following options:

· Option 1: Audio/Video Presentation

1. Using the project deliverables from weeks 5 and 7, create a script. Take the major points explored from the previous deliverables (origin and interpretation of the “The Saying” and its relevance to lifespan human from Week 5; and how ‘The Saying” applies to the person you researched for Week 7 and a description of the person’s stage of human development) and write the transcript of what you will be presenting. The transcript should be about a page long and should incorporate any feedback your instructor has given you. Include the text of the transcript in the Assignment Worksheet section on page 3.

2. Create your audio visual presentation by first following the

recording instructions

to set up an account on YouTube. Once you have the account set up, record your presentation using a webcam. If you do not have a webcam on your computer, you may be able to use one at your campus or borrow from an acquaintance or classmate. If you do not have access to a web cam, proceed with Option 2 below.

3. You are encouraged to be creative and engaging as you deliver your presentation, however, the information you present must be grounded in accurate application of developmental thinking.

4. When you have the URL where your presentation can be viewed, submit the link.

What is happening to this individual? Give a brief summary.

Elliot Rodgers killed 6 individuals and wounded over 22 others around the University of California campus at 22 years. After the incident, Rodgers then committed suicide (Thompson, 2014). Prior to the occurrence, Rodgers demonstrated fury through a YouTube video where a woman excluded him. He was angry because he was a virgin at 22 and other men had beautiful wives around them.

What stage of lifespan developmental stage/age is this person experiencing (i.e., Infant, child, adolescent, or adult and the chronological age)?

Elliot Rodgers committed his crime at 22 years after a woman rejected him. The incident is attributed to his nurture at childhood particularly the socioeconomic condition where he was brought up (Thompson, 2014). He lived with his step mother at his early stage of life. He disliked his step mother and he had psychological challenges throughout his life.

How might have the “twig” (person) been bent? Select at least three major develop-mentalist assumptions such as nature/nurture, behaviorism, genetic code, sociocultural, or any other developmental concepts from your textbook and discuss how these developmental concepts may have contributed to this person’s situation before, during and after the life event featured in the news article.

The early childhood of a person influences how his/her life will be in the future. The behaviours and future personalities of an individual depends on how they are nurtured. Thus, the behaviours and personalities of a person at adulthood are a replica of the values they acknowledged in their early lives. Rodger’s behaviour at 22 is a replica of the experiences that he encounters as a child and a teenager.

Part 1: Development of Problem-Solving Skills

I compared the problem-solving skill of an adult and young adult when they are playing cards. I realized the child was struggling to put together the game concept, but the adult was using the prior knowledge to decode the tricks of the game. Also, seeking questions plays was another major constraint. Furthermore, adults and young children tend to pursue specific hypotheses (for example, “is it a pig?” “is it a pencil?”). Accordingly, both young and old would seek more information to categorize specific objects.

Part 2: Life Span Development

The phrase “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree” was developed by Alexander Pope in the 18th century. The folk theory shows how internal and external factors in early childhood influence our development. Both nature and nurture play significant roles during early development. A young child’s developing mind can permanently be affected by peer influence, environmental and parental effects. The person they become later in life and behaviors they have developed is due to the experiences and lessons gained during early development. It implies lifespan development because the child’s brain starts developing from infancy to adulthood. Human development involves many factors, including historical, nurture, nature, and subcultural differences.
