How members within an organization behave is directly dictated by organizational structure. Some of the main components of the organizational structure can help or hold back the organizations success. The structure and types of communication used within said organization could be looked upon as some of those components. It is imperative to understand which specific structure is the most effective and why in order to run a successful organization. This also goes in hand with identifying certain methods of communication have more success as well.

The importance of organizational structure needs to be emphasized at all times since it dictates how the hierarchy of roles of employees and management within the organizations will be arranged. The simple structure is typically chosen by smaller organizations. This structure shows the management team trickle down from CEO, through managements levels, and ends with the lower level employees. This structure allows for a set-up that is easily understood and followed structure which ensures all employees know their roles and who they are being managed by.

Depending on how large of an organization or their location they will restructure in order to meet their needs and demands. Which is truly important in order for them to identify the structure that works and will lead them to success. This could include Divisional Structure or Matrix structure. These truly create a more diverse and wider grin for management teams. These structures also often allow crossing of management teams for maximum control and success.

Structures can be both effective and ineffective and depending on the outcome can either help an organization to its full potential or lead it to its demise. In order to be effective the chosen structure has to outline how the tasks will be divided and organized. It needs to define what roles the employees will partake, as well as how the chain of command works in order for employees to identify who to report to (Bolin, 2018).

The opposite of course is ineffective structure which leads to employee confusion as to their role within the organization. This is prominent in unorganized companies where theoretical structure is not enforced which can be seen by managers unable to lead and control their teams. Organizational behavior is directly impacted by ineffective structure due to creating ineffective work environments and eventually leading employees to disengage from company core values and/or goals. Ineffective structure can also lead to conflict, unable to resolve conflict, and poor performance.

A healthy relationship between team members and their management can be presented thru an effective structure. When a company or organizations chooses a structure that can be reinforced by all members of the management team and followed by employees daily a boost in confidence, lifestyle, company values, and effort can be identified.

A good start as to create a successful organization is having an effective structure but being able to communicate with different department employees or other sites is what keeps afloat a great company. Many forms of effective communication can include face to face meetings, video or phone conferences, and of course emails. All these communication methods allow both parties to understand the information being given and a mutual understanding as well. “Effective communication takes place when a sender’s message is fully understood by the receiver” (Borkowski, 2016).

Of course there can also be ineffective methods of communication such as written messages or memos, bulletins that are unseen, and newsletters that may not be seen as important or may not reach all employees. The reason why these methods might be deemed ineffective is due to not having a guarantee of the intended audience understanding or even receiving the information. There is also no way for employees to confirm the information was received as intended or received at all.

It is imperative that companies understand organizational behavior and how it affects the overall structure. The method of communication chosen and implemented will allow for better understanding of the core structure and the necessary implementations that need to take place. A successful organization is made up of many working parts and they need to be able to understand and choose the best structure that fits the companies’ initiatives and goals in order to be successful.
