is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind” (Eccl. 12:13, NIV).

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matt. 22:36-40, NIV). 

Thread: Which comes first: the love of God which bears the fruit of the fear of God, or does the fear of God bear the fruit of the love of God? Or, are these affections simultaneously cultivated by something else? Consider how Scripture answers these questions, and then the implications for Spiritual Formation. 

Replies: In your replies, I want you to challenge the author by bringing in passages and considerations they may not have thought of in their original reply. Before replying to a student with multiple replies, make sure all students have at least one dialogue partner for their original thread.
