For this week’s Discussion, you will need to take the organizational-creativity assessment in this week’s interactive media piece titled: Dimensions of a creative working climate. Use this creativity assessment to assess an organization for which you have worked or with which you are familiar.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post results from taking the organizational creativity assessment, including:

· A description of the organization you selected for the organizational creativity assessment (i.e., is the organization small or large and what was your level/position within the organization or from what level/position are you making the assessment, etc.).

· Use these designations to describe the size of your company:

· Small organization: Below 500 employees

· Medium-sized organization: 500 to 1,000 employees

· Large organization: 1,000 or above employees

· The level/position relates to the level of management from which the assessment is made (i.e., from a first level management level or from an executive level management level)

· Describe the leadership, environment, and process factors specific to both individuals as well as teams that contribute to a creative climate. Make sure to compare and contrast how well these factors affect individual team creativity climate vs. team creativity climate. Consider leadership and influence at multiple levels of the organization.

· Next, describe the results of the creativity assessment you took. Explain how your organization fared according to the assessment. Summarize in your own words the salient points referring to existing creative practices that were assessed.

Identify the dimensions of creativity at the organization that you ranked the highest and the lowest. Evaluate how the rank of these dimensions explains the organizational climate for creativity. Include whether the summary and suggestions provided by the assessment are supported by your experience or observations.

You appear to be highly involved in your work and challenged to an appropriate extent. You likely feel excitement at new creative challenges and projects and invest personal time and energy into your work. Can you identify exactly which aspects of your workplace lead to your feeling of personal investment? Consider recreating these aspects in other areas of your life.

FREEDOM

Your workplace seems relatively free and you likely have the ability to suggest new ideas and alternatives, explore exciting new processes or suggestions, and exchange information with stakeholders at all levels. Workplaces characterized by the free exchange of information tend to empower employees to make plans and decisions.

IDEA SUPPORT

Colleagues and supervisors pay attention to your ideas and suggestions, and the overall atmosphere at your workplace is constructive and positive. You are empowered to test the value of your ideas and turn them into reality. Be sure to take advantage of your uniquely supportive environment and take the time to generate new ideas and test them out!

TRUST & OPENNESS

You seem to feel comfortable and safe expressing ideas in your workplace. You do not fear reprisals for suggesting differing opinions or for testing out an idea that ultimately isn�t adopted. There is mutual support among colleagues and dynamic or new ideas are explored without ridicule. Why not take advantage of this supportive space to fully explore your creativity?

DYNAMISM & LIVELINESS

The amount of change in your organization is moderate, and employees are able to keep pace with these changes. This moderately dynamic atmosphere allows you to suggest new ideas and implement creative thinking, but does not overwhelm you or cause psychological turbulence. Try to take advantage of this to get involved with innovations and changes as they begin.

PLAYFULNESS & HUMOR

The atmosphere at your organization is relatively relaxed and humor and jokes are not unwelcome. Nevertheless, you do feel pressure to be serious and to take your work seriously. Even as you take your work seriously, be sure to remember that humor and playfulness are significant stimulants to creativity. The next time you face a creative challenge, consider bringing an aspect of playfulness into your team or workplace.

DEBATE

The voices and opinions of stakeholders at all levels are welcome in your organization. Most employees are interested in suggesting new ideas and in responding to the ideas of others. While this clash of viewpoints may sometimes feel stressful, exposing yourself to as many voices as possible is a great stimulus to creativity.

RISK-TAKING

New opportunities arise infrequently in your workplace. An aversion to risk may have led your organization to attempt to take the �safe� path and defer decision making. This might have the effect of stifling innovation and creativity. The next time you have a new or innovative idea, consider presenting it and making a strong case for your idea, backed by research and analysis. This might help your workplace to become more creative despite risk.

IDEA TIME

In your workplace, you might feel free to suggest and generate new ideas, but you may not always have the time to fully explore them. Deadlines are important and it is somewhat hard to deviate from the normal tasks and assignments for a given project. The next time you have a creative idea or suggestion, try to anticipate how it might affect the timeline of your project and then use this information to make a persuasive argument for idea time.

CONFLICT [NEGATIVE]

People at your organization are mature and understanding of the differences between various types of people. This means that interpersonal conflict and hostility is infrequent. Take advantage of this to pursue your own creative ideas and support the ideas of coworkers.
