Guidelines for Annotated Bibliography
Use the resources provided for you to help you better understand how to go about searching for and reviewing appropriate literature for your topic.
For this assignment:
- Choose THREE (3) research articles from peer-reviewed professional journals or books. Must be actual empirical research studies (not just informational, like a textbook). These research articles do not have to be qualitative, because sometimes we learn a lot through quantitative studies and want to follow it up with qualitative studies. Still, it is a good idea to make sure that you review at least one study that is qualitative. In so doing, you have a better idea of what your own research might look like for this class (questions asked, methods used, data analysis, etc).
- For EACH of the THREE resources you have chosen, cite the source as an APA-style reference, then write one concise paragraph summarizing that source and identifying how it might relate to your own topic ideas for research.
- EACH ARTICLE paragraph should address the following directly and in this order:
a) what the primary research question was,
b) brief description of participants,
c) kinds of research methods used to gather data (e.g., interview, observation, focus groups, surveys/questionnaires),
d) the general results or findings,
e) identifiable limitations of the study (e.g, what might have been missing, overlooked, etc.), and
f) in what way the resource relates to your own topic or ideas for research.

This annotated bibliography needs a cover page with your name, date, course number and section, and assignment title. It should be submitted online via Blackboard.
You should write in full sentences using academic vocabulary (see below).
This paper does not need a reference section, because each reference will be included in APA style at the start of each paragraph already.
This paper does not need introductory, concluding, or transition paragraphs.
PLEASE FOLLOW GUIDELINES PROVIDED. ALSO ATTACH ARTICLES AT THE END IN PDF FORMAT.

Trevor, C.O., Lansford, B. & Black, J.W. (2004). Employee turnover and job performance: monitoring
the influences of salary growth and promotion. Journal of Armchair Psychology, 113, 1, 56-64.
In this article Trevor et al. (2004) review the influences of pay and job opportunities in respect to job
performance, turnover rates and employee motivation. The authors use data gained through organizational
surveys of blue-chip companies in Vancouver, Canada to try to understand the main causes of employee
turnover and whether it is linked to salary growth. Six hundred participants, diverse men and women
working in various organizations, participated. The research focuses on assessing a range of pay
structures such as pay for performance and organizational reward schemes. Researchers found that [report
very basic results]…. One of the main limitations of the research was that the survey sample was
restricted to mid-level management, thus the perceptions of lower-level and higher-level management
were not considered. This is a critical omission because there is reportedly high turnover at least in lower-
level management positions. The authors of this study indicate that further, more extensive, research
needs to be undertaken to develop a more in-depth understanding of employee turnover and job
performance. The article is useful to my research topic, as Trevor et al. suggest that there are numerous
reasons for employee turnover and variances in employee motivation and performance. I will consider
this when I prepare questions for interviews in my research.
