Primary and Secondary Sources

The report must incorporate the results of your own primary research. When integrating primary
research, you must explain the method(s) you used to gather that research and insert a copy in
your report’s appendices of any collection instrument you used. For example, if you interviewed
some people for the report, you would put the list of interview questions you asked in the
appendix. If you arranged for a group of people to take a survey, you would put the survey in the
appendix.

The complete report should also cite at least seven secondary sources. At least three of these
secondary sources should come from peer-reviewed, scholarly journals.

As noted above, your primary and secondary sources will be integrated into the paper to
explain the problem, to provide evidence of the problem, and to support the solution.

Please note that, if you interview people for your research, you must cite the interviews in your
paper. In the paper, you cannot simply write that you “spoke with employees.” A URL that
shows how to cite an interview in APA citation style is provided in the list of components
for the report.

You might have taken WRTG 393 at UMUC. In WRTG 393, the final paper is a white paper.
This assignment is different from the white paper in WRTG 393. In this paper for WRTG 394,
you are writing to a specific decision-maker about a specific problem in your workplace or
community. The audience is much more focused than that for the white paper in WRTG 393.

Graphics

Your report might benefit from graphics. As mentioned above, pictures of your workplace or
community situation might help illustrate the problem you are trying to address. Graphs, tables,
or charts might help show trends that will persuade your decision-maker that the problem exists.

Please do not incorporate a graphic for the sake of incorporating a graphic. Include a graphic
only if it helps communicate a message in your report.

Due Date

Your instructor will notify you of the due date. You will write a first draft, your instructor will
comment on the first draft, and you will submit a second draft using the comments as your guide.

Dear Lt Col Loveless:

Enclosed is my report, “Implementation of recycling procedures at the 802nd” that you requested based on my memo following last month’s commander call.

My report shows the need to implement recycling procedures at our unit. The most pronounced advantage of recycling is saving on money since resources are conserved disposal cost are tremendously reduced. With that, we can expect to boost the image of our unit. Discussions has been conducted with each office in the unit discussing possible ways to integrate recycling and what effect that would have on daily operations. Waste that our unit generates is also being tracked to help establish an appropriate recycling technique.

Thank you again for your time and consideration. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with questions or concerns you might have regarding the implementation of my proposed initiative.

Kind Regards,

Executive Summary

Purpose and method of this report
In a recent commander’s call, you spoke on how it is a goal to find ways to improve as a squadron. You stated that if there were any ideals on becoming better as a whole to route up and make you aware. Most organizations hardly focus on how much waste they generate, pro-actively integrating recycling in an organization’s waste management accrues numerous advantages.

I have distributed an employee survey that addresses the following:

· Basic recycling knowledge

· If recycling would mess with daily operations

Primary research has been conducted with all offices in the 802nd Security Forces. After discussing the goals of recycling and impact it can have on our unit/community. I administered an identical multiple choice questionnaire with questions asking if they were familiar with recycling, what items they think they should recycle if given proper receptacles, what items were they adding to waste baskets the most, and if recycling would mess with daily operations. The results of these surveys help demonstrate whether personnel have basic knowledge on recycling and how it should be conducted.

Secondary research was conducted from a variety of scholarly written trade, journals, and books.

Findings and Conclusions

The results of this survey found that most personnel in these offices do have basic knowledge of recycling and while discussing with them everyone understood the importance of it. Personnel are more inclined to recycle if the appropriate receptacles are present. It also seemed that integrating recycling procedures within the unit wouldn’t hinder daily operations, only enhance them. To conclude we have a great operational unit with a flaw of not recycling. It will have a positive impact on our unit, and we will set the standard on how we should take care of the community and the world.

Recommendations

Recommendations to implement recycling procedures:

· Create flyers to be posted around squadron that encourages everyone to recycle, this will also include fun facts about recycling

· Include recycle bins in all offices and bigger receptacles outside to collect recycled materials

Intro

Background
In a recent commander’s call, you spoke on how it is a goal to find ways to improve as a squadron. You stated that if there were any ideals on becoming better as a whole to route up and make you aware. Most organizations hardly focus on how much waste they generate, pro-actively integrating recycling in an organization’s waste management accrues numerous advantages.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to address the lack of recycling within our unit. Recycling is a simple strategy for waste management in organizations. Its advantages include saving money and resources and curbing greenhouse emissions. The process involves tracking, setting up a team and goals, and finally assessing the feasibility of the recycling program. Recycling strategies are fundamental to establishing a sustainable organization. By reusing, recycling, and reducing as well as waste, also you will reduce the amount of material that is send into the landfills, protect these declining resources, decrease emissions, pollution also contamination, set aside money via selling salvage recourses also eventually donate to the waste decrease objectives for the people. This information will help us to create a greener organization while doing good for the earth.

Overview of Methodology

The following methods were used to determine lack of recycling within the unit and ways that could be corrected.

· Secondary Research has been conducted to support whether members will participate in recycling if the proper receptacles were available. Recycling has tremendous benefits on the world and organizations.

· Current employees have been surveyed to determine their basic knowledge on recycling, what trash they contribute to the waste bins most, and whether recycling would effect on daily operations.

· Survey data has been analyzed determine the existing amount of waste the unit generates

Methods

Primary Research

I administered an identical multiple choice questionnaire with questions asking if they were familiar with recycling, what items they think they should recycle if given proper receptacles, what items were they adding to waste baskets the most, and if they thought recycling would mess with daily operations. The results of these surveys help demonstrate whether personnel have basic knowledge on recycling to include its importance and how easy it is to implement into any unit.

Secondary Research

Secondary research has been conducted to determine the expertise emphasizing the importance of recycling in general. My research includes ways to implement recycling procedures within organizations and its benefits. Multiple academic journals were used to justify why we should recycle.

Results

Importance of recycling

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a report in 2016, highlighting the significance of recycling and reusing materials. How materials are used in an organization is crucial in ensuring a sustainable economy as well as the environment. The research emphasizes the importance of recycling and its benefits. Implementation of recycling procedures could be simple, yet effective. Employees that are knowledgeable of recycling and its benefits are more inclined to recycle because they know its benefits.

Recycling

Most of the offices would recycle if given the opportunity. That is indeed a start to start implementing recycling into the organization. Measurable goals provide a benchmark for tracking progress and expanding recycling projects within the organization (Conke, 2018).

My secondary research I gather some information on the amount of waste that is most likely produced from all offices. That gives an idea on the amount of waste we produce daily based on the results above. This concept is very important to understand when trying to implement a recycling program. You must have an idea on the amount of waste your company is producing. Assessment of recycling data illuminates on the available recycling opportunities that the organization can venture into. One of the information generated from an audit is the quantity and composition of the material in the waste stream (EPA, 2018).

Recycling

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a report in 2016, highlighting the significance of recycling and reusing materials. How materials are used in an organization is crucial in ensuring a sustainable economy as well as the environment. As the economy of the organization grows, so does the competition for scares resources increase? To curb resource constraints, it is fundamental for an organization to use materials more productively whistle, generating minimal impact. Hence recycling is a process by which an organization can convert waste material into valuable raw materials, thereby maintaining a competitive advantage (“Economy-wide Prospects for Material Recovery and Waste Recycling” 2018).

Recycling conserves raw materials, strengthens our efficiency, and creates businesses. Usage is an important part of sustainable materials Management (SMM), the approach that emphasizes the creative and sustainable usage of materials across their whole life cycle while minimizing their environmental impacts. With the robust history of environmental stewardship, the United States tool gives substantial investments to efficiently utilize, reuse, or recycle materials across its processes and reduces its possible environmental effect by sourcing materials responsibly, also as appropriately managing material management and disposal. Each major industry place in the globe operates a reliable recycling system for business and nonindustrial material, for instance, recycling food used in the manufacturing process by feeding utility plant cooling towers.

Recycling of materials has a myriad of advantages to an organization.

Most organizations hardly focus on how much waste they generate. Consequently, these organizations’ waste management programs only pay attention to disposal rather than recycling (Milbrandt et al. 2018). However, pro-actively integrating recycling in an organization’s waste management accrues numerous advantages. The most pronounced advantage of recycling is saving on money since resources are conserved disposal cost are tremendously reduced. Another advantage of recycling is that it enhances sustainability, thus boosting the organization’s image, which attracts clients and investors. Furthermore, recycling reduces greenhouse emissions, and individual states offer significant tax-cuts to organizations that adopt effective recycling strategies (Abdel-Shafy& Mansour, 2018).

Hazardous Waste usage is not just good for the environment, although it may help the organization’s foundation line. Recycling hazardous material will boost industry efficiency and reduce costs related to buying raw Waste as well as Waste organization. By reusing hazardous materials, the business can be capable of removing this production of the hazardous material as well as avoiding RCRA regulatory requirements altogether.

The first strategy for establishing or improving recycling within an organization is tracking waste. An organization cannot manage waste without first measuring it. Tracking the amount of waste generated in the organization will provide a basis for establishing the appropriate recycling techniques for the organizations. Several tracking tools are available online for tracking waste in an organization. Examples of such tools include WasteWise, Portfolio Manager, and Energy Star Portfolio, among many other tools. For instance, the Energy Star Portfolio Manager is a free online tracking tool created by EPA to monitor and maintain records of greenhouse emissions, water, and energy consumption (EnergyStar, 2020).

Energy Star if preferred for its simplicity since it only requires basic information such as energy bills to estimate and manage resources in an organization. Tracking the quantity of the recyclables and the wastes hauled from the business gives you an understanding of how the waste organization system is performing information on the quantity of the material created as well as the recycling rate. Nevertheless, to gain insights on how to change, the waste assessment is important. The waste assessment can supply you with valuable information to identify opportunities for waste reduction. Take the waste assessment results to change waste reduction activities. For instance, you might see there is a higher proportion of pollution in the recycling water, suggesting the need for improved communication and training about what should get in the recycling bin. Or the results might highlight that participants are holding out a huge proportion of recyclables in the garbage.

Managing recycling

The important component in occupational healthcare is well-structured work by different stakeholders. This business with stakeholders begins with stakeholder examination. It aims towards assessing in addition to understand stakeholders on the position of the organization. The beginning is to recognize the important stakeholders of occupational healthcare within the organization. These stakeholders may be classified as inner, intermediate as well as outside stakeholders. The majority of significant internal stakeholders are those various employees running in the organization; different internal stakeholders are individual employees and several directors (senior managers, line managers, HR managers) of an organization. Interface stakeholders allow professional welfare service

However, in an event, there is no green team in the organization; a new team will be mandated to plan design and implement a suitable recycling strategy for the organization. The team should comprise of members from various disciplines including management and suggestions from every employee. After the team is set up, their first agenda should be defining recycling goals. Measurable goals provide a benchmark for tracking progress and expanding recycling projects within the organization (Conke, 2018).

Fundamental Recycling program

Another fundamental stage in recycling is the assessment of the recycling program. The tracking tool, such as Energy Star, elucidates the recycling rate and progress. Assessment of recycling data illuminates on the available recycling opportunities that the organization can venture into. One of the information generated from an audit is the quantity and composition of the material in the waste stream (EPA, 2018).

The results from the waste audit assists in determining the appropriate strategies of recycling efficiently. For instance, a contaminated recycling stream elicits the need for proper education and communication on the contents of specific recycling bins. Elsewhere, the results could suggest that a particular department are disposing of recyclables inappropriately. From the results of such assessments brainstorming sessions can be held to evaluate feasible options that are in line with the organization’s goals.

Conclusion

In conclusion, recycling is a fairly simple strategy for waste management in organizations. To accomplish this, you need to shift the perspective on how to act waste managing also why it is very significant to the new day and age.

Subject: Request to conduct research on implementing recycling procedures in the squadron

Summary

Last month, during the commander’s call, you asked us to think about things that could make us a better squadron, what things could we do to set us apart from the rest? Recycling does not occur at our unit and that is a huge issue. This would be a great idea because recycling comes with so many benefits and I believe it will steer us in the right direction in becoming the best unit possible.

What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated

The lack of recycling that occurs at our unit is evident to me when I see paper and plastics mixed in with waste baskets. Most organizations hardly focus on how much waste they generate, and it’s easy to assume that our unit produces a lot with over 600 defenders. This needs to be investigated because recycling effects our environment. We want to make sure that we are doing our part to keep our unit, environment, and the world free of waste, reduced greenhouse gases, and chemicals released into the air from rubbish.

What Secondary Research Has Been Conducted About the Problem

Secondary research I have conducted thus far consists of information obtained from literature via the web surrounding the importance of recycling. I have found many sources backing up the idea of recycling and its benefits to help save our earth. I located many articles detailing the process of recycling and how simple it is to implement into many organizations. There are an endless amount of scholarly and trade articles detailing the benefits, challenges and rewards that comes with recycling.

What Primary Research You Will Conduct About the Problem

With your permission, I will conduct a questionnaire with all the offices in the squadron asking what items they tend to put into the waste baskets the most. There I can begin to have an understanding about what items are contributed to the waste baskets the most. I want to discuss the importance of recycling and get some ideals from people on how they could help with the process. While doing that I will take a count of those that would recycle if the appropriate waste bins were made available. Having a discussion with everyone would allow me to be able to instill the importance of recycling while getting their feedback. Letting them know how easy it is to become a unit who recycles will be the last key point of the conversations. This method of simply interacting with the people at our unit and asking for their ideals and help with this matter I believe will go a long way. We all will benefit from this change so the ideas of all those affected will be beneficial.

What Benefits Will Result from Your Research

Our unit would benefit from this research because it is It’s a global problem. Accumulation of waste is not just a problem for a single nation. I don’t believe there will be any objections to the idea because there are so many benefits of recycling. This is a great way to better our unit and to set the standard. With your permission, we can help raise awareness of recycling and get other units and communities to step up and recycle. Together we can reduce waste, greenhouse gases, and chemicals released into the air from rubbish and landfills.

Preliminary Ideas for Solving This Problem

To start, its important for people to learn the basic information regarding recycling. That can be translated through the discussions I have with all the offices. It’s crucial to understand the impact of recycling and ways to implement it into our lifestyle. Working with a recycling company will steer us in the right direction of getting started. I will first need to find out how a rough estimate in the amount of waste we generate as a unit.

Recycling companies in our local community will provide bins for each office as well as large receptables outside of our unit dedicated to recyclables. With those bins, I will decide with the guidance of a reputable recycling company the recyclables that are to be collected.

Recycling graphs will be implemented around the unit as a friendly reminder to recycle and how to.

Conclusion

We have a great operational unit with a flaw of not recycling. With your permission, I will see that recycling have a positive impact on our unit, and we will set the standard on how we should take care of the community and the world. Recycling should be the standard and everyone in the world should be participating. All it takes is change and the sky is the limit. Go green!
