The John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success has been immensely used in my organizations and the great success that it is experiencing today is because of it aspects that are intricately intertwined. First of all, there is mutual respect among all the employee which has been established as a result of the good friendship culture that has developed among the employee. The friendship among the employees is not just any other normal friendship it is the loyal type of friendship where everyone has the good intention of lifting each other up so that they all succeed as one team. Based on the genuine friendship there is cooperativeness among the employees because they know that the success of the project is not only for one person on the team but for all of them thus they ensure they full cooperate and help each other in any task that is a head of them but their success is co-owned. The presence of friendship, locality, cooperativeness, skill and confidence among the employees there has been exemplary work because all the team members respect and love each other and have an agenda of lifting each other up so that they can succeed as one (Curtis, 2017).

The aspect of confidence cannot be emphasized anymore because it gives individuals the ability to give their best. It is the act of having positive thoughts, feelings of well-being and acceptance of who you are both physically and intellectually. In the business environment confidence is majorly bolstered by those you work with through good friendship, cooperativeness which can be seen through appreciation of what you do and bring to the team. When an individual lacks confidence it is mainly because of the perception that others have of us. When an employee feels the sense of belonging which is fostered through friendship it prevents them from doing things we want or need to do because they believe that the consequences maybe humiliating or embarrassing.

Strong team work has generated into great output which leads to great success and high revenue income for the organization because the employees have the morale do work well arising out of aspects from each level of John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success (Neck, 2011).

Leadership Style

My type of leadership is transformational because it focuses on getting compliance through giving withholding prizes and benefits. It does not only on focus on what needs to be done to achieve the success but it also success of the task handled by each person in the group. Through this way of leadership, I am able to help and support the team members and the whole organization. This style of leadership allows the me to gain trust, admiration, loyalty, and respect from the team members thus encouraging them to work harder for the success of the project. This type of leadership is exercised four-fold, first is as the leader l use inspirational motivation to influence high standards and expectation for members of my team. Based on how l handle matters and relate with them they are optimistic about our ability as a team to meet goals. Most of the times l strive to give positive feedback to them through demonstrating the importance of role played by each and every member on the teaming implementation their duties and responsibilities. The motivation they get from me as their leader then helps them to motivate the other team member thus a strong sense of purpose which gives the team morale to drive their group forward. In return efficient team work encourages the team members to give their best in terms of skills and performance and to be hopeful about the future and the successful completion of the project. Team spirit is usually enhanced by the confidence and cooperativeness they draw from me as their transformational with as transformational leader having charisma is one of the important trait that l possesses. Most of the times l use it to influence the behavior of each team member in the team as their leader l have to be their best role models through engaging in high standards of ethical behavior. In most organizations it is common to see that team member in a project always want to identify with that have high ethical standards and have the interest to emulate them. Transformational leaders always show high standards of moral and ethical conduct and are always considered to doing the right thing. This is one of the traits l have adopted and it has helped me as the project leader to get respect from the team members thus allowing them to have confidence in me and place a great deal of trust what l do. Through my way of leadership, they team is able to get a sense of vision and mission which propels them to pursue the successful completion of the project every day.

Another way that l use to lead the lead is the concept of being static as a leader. Transformational Leadership strongly relies on a set of rather static guidelines and principles such as the four Is. This makes Transformational Leadership an easy to understand and easy to apply concept. However, corporate life is usually much more complex and requires a leadership approach that is capable of dealing with this complexity.

Transformational Leadership is a strong, and it requires a charismatic leader who is able to steers the organizations through turbulence leading to a successful future. The aim goal of a transformational leader is not give orders or punish those that do not comply with directives but to inspire them towards changing the status quo. Transformational leaders guide followers by igniting a sense of meaning in what they do and challenging them to be better. The team members of a project will be motivated to work passionately so as to develop the spirit of teamwork. Everyone on the team is free to give their views the way forward, the vision, and the objectives that the team needs to achieve and all these are put into consideration. Those this type of working relationship the employees get convinced that they work and are on the same page with their leader.

In use this type of leadership l uses the constructive way of thinking and addressing issues. The key agenda of constructive thinking is to minimizing or leaving to chances for the destructive traits or energy, it essentially replaces negative with positive thus making it a daily routine that is turned into a habit.

Constructive thinking inculcates three key aspect and these include optimism, positive prophecy and resilience. Instead of focusing on how your worst thought or fear might is likely to come true a transformational leader considers good things that might happen next. He or she looks for an opportunity despite the roadblock and gets excited about pursuing goals from a using another approach. Despite the hurdle a head the end result is positive. Constructive thinking does not entertain questionable thinking. The leaders learn from their mistakes, let downs, and pitfall, but quickly pick up forge forward. The thinking is based on the belief that by falling down we fall forward.

Just like the John Wooden’ s Pyramid of Success transformational leadership it is premised on the aspects of effective leadership which translates to transformational leadership. It requires effective listening thus translating into effective communication. As a transformative leader you have to listen to others if you want others for them listen to you. According to Coach Wooden the two away of communication is the way a leader is supposed to interact with individual on his team. A good leader has to be a good listener because through listening he or she is able to learn something new from those he works with.

The concept of self-satisfaction is derived from knowing that as a person you did your best to become the better thus resulting into which in turn results into peace of mind (Wooden, 1974). According to this pyramid of the definition of success is relative as since it varies from one situation to another. Coming from the normal definition of success a leader has to work hard to outdo the competitors for them to be seen successful. Good friendship come from dedication, good values, dedication, and respecting other people. Although friendships can go a long way in building great team work among individual it is not always a guarantee that the friendships may lead into going into successful ventures (Curtis, 2017).

Loyalty and teamwork are one of the fundamental aspects of the pyramid. The desire of most employees in any organization is to work in environment where be part of a team whose leadership cares about their concerns, needs, their views and treat them equally and with respect. For success to be attained cooperation at all levels of the organization is required from all the relevant key player since they all have to cooperate and support each other (Wooden, 1974). For enhanced team work particular where people are working towards a common goal or target Individuals in an organization should share ideas, information, creativity, and responsibilities (Levassor, 2004). Great leadership comes from the practice that the leader is not see as a monopoly of all ideas. The Leader has to get and take into consideration the views of all the people that he or she works with so as to achieve and desired objectives. Additionally, apart from working together as a great team it helps on the team employees to own the ideas and feel as part of the organization. (Wooden, 1974).

To this end therefore, it takes a lot of thing other aspect for the organization to experience success, apart from the hard work in put by the employee’s things such as friendship, assertiveness, self-control respect and cooperation matter.

Self-control is also another crucial influencing factor because it involves the discipline of a person and ability to control one’s emotions. Based on studies emotions highly affect the work out of every individual and how much they put into it. For instance, a leader should be able to control himself in all spheres by avoiding unethical engagements, temptations and any other factors that affect his or her e emotions. Most of the mistakes often occur when uncontrolled emotions are widespread. Huge pitfall occurs when individuals are unable to control their emotions thus leading to outburst and confrontation that would otherwise be avoided if only one was able to control their emotions. Self- control goes a long way in mitigating against such encounters because one some gets angry and cannot control what he or she says it get ugly because unlike any other thing words once spoken words cannot be taken back (Wooden, 1974). Therefore, as a great leader one should be able to address all issues and grievances as they occur not withstanding how small they occur because ignoring them might lead to occupational health safety hazards as time goes by.

The desire to excel can be created through cultivating good decision making habits as an individual without necessarily having to rely on others especially on urgent matters that require speedy intervention. (Wooden, 1974). One of the greatest failure that a leader can bring upon himself is the failure to act when need arises. Great leadership requires that one swings into action with the best decision or action, however this does not mean that leaders should act on impulse. The decision made have to be rapid but with the best interest of the organization and those of the employees at heart. In handling the issue of self-control the leader has to maintain high moral and ethical standards thus allowing himself or herself to fully concentrate on objectives of the organization (Wooden, 1974). Success does not come easily as it requires patience and perseverance in times get hard and thing get thick. It is imperative to say that a great leader has to be resilient and rise above the occasion at all times.

Conditioning refers to the physical, mental and moral rest and exercise that an individual requires. These three are intricately intertwined since one cannot attain physical fitness unless they have the mental and moral fitness first (Wooden, 1974). A good leader needs the knowledge and ability to appropriately execute the tasks bestowed to him or her with keenly and in a responsible manner (Wooden, 1974

Poise requires truthfulness to oneself and not getting upset irrespective of the circumstance (Wooden, 1974). Regardless of the principles and beliefs, the leader should hold fast to the principles. In the real world, a good leader business should consider all the principles and beliefs in all situations for a company’s survival. Confidence is the noble aspect in the pyramid and comprises respect without fear which comes through faith in oneself in knowing that an individual is prepared.it is attained through pursuing those assets that allow a leader to reach a certain level of competency (Wooden, 1974). Skills are necessary for the achievement of the company’s objectives and therefore every leader needs to be confident enough.

Competitiveness or the having a competitive edge form the apex of the pyramid. Competitiveness essentiality having a strong desire to stay at the top of your game always. This component offers the leaders and their team members the chance to enhance and grow their skill and innovate different ways of handling any upcoming issues. (Wooden, 1974). Competiveness in an organization allows the business to stay at the top in the market and also retain highly skilled employees and increased income.

Skills are being an important aspect of leadership. The skills are clothed by the professionalism in handling tasks. The objective of the organization can only be efficiently achieved If the one leading the team has the required skills and knowledge and knowing how to apply them. Since managers are held accountable for all their action at the workplace they have to handle everything with care and take into consideration the reflection it will have on the organization as a whole. A leader should look at both the externa and internal effects of the action before acting. One of the imperative component of my pyramid scheme is unity which in most cases is fostered by good friendship, respect and trust among team members. Another component of my pyramid scheme is integrity. Integrity will go a long way in putting each employee up to task with minimal supervision because everyone knows what is required of them. (Uzuegbu & Nnadozie, 2015). Initiative refers to giving the employees the platform to express new ideas. When granted this opportunity novel ideas are intervene thus giving the company a competitive edge over the others (Uzuegbu & Nnadozie, 2015). Good leaders should always should always give the opportunity and encourage those they work with to bring their ideas on board and implement them if they are viable because such action boost the morale of the employees and also increase their productivity in the organization.

Strategy for a self-directed project team member

Step 1: Skills- the project team member should ensure that he or she has the required set of skills to take part in executing the project.

Step 2: Teamwork- a good team leader should possess they ability to foster good working relationship with those on his or her team for the common good of the project.

Step 3: Integrity- This goes to the core of the character of everyone working with the organization. It is the mother of all the other influencing aspects that leads to success.

Step 4: The desire to excel- the team player have personal drive to succeed in what he or she does. He or she should identify any shortcoming and address them as they come without fear or hesitation because of the focus on the end goal which is ultimate success.

To sum it all up leadership requires a lot of things for one to be called a good leader or for the good leadership of a person to be seem. The application of transformational leadership style in a project is the best approach because it tends to have both aspects of charismatic and transitional leadership. The role of a transformational leader is to play the role of coach and mentor through facilitating steady growth, ownership and empowerment. Since transitional leaders reward their employees for creativity and innovation the business is able to experience great teamwork since employees are appreciated according to their skills and knowledge.
