Introduction

Business process refers to a set of related tasks which are logically performed to produce a desired outcome in business. It outlines how work should be conducted within a business or organization. Business processes involve a number of activities. Some examples of essential business processes include: development of a new product in an organization, creation of a successful market plan and also the process of ordering goods from a supplier. Business redesign involves the activities of analyzing and designing workflows and processes within and between organizations or businesses. Businesses redesign enables a business to achieve major efficiency in output. Slight differences exist between business redesign and business reengineering. While business reengineering involves complete removal or elimination of existing process, redesign does not necessarily involve the elimination of existing business process instead it considers possibilities of boosting business measures such as customer satisfaction.

Business redesigning involves various vital processes. The primary purpose of redesigning a business is to improve on specific areas. These are; service delivery, increase in return on investment, and reduction of cost. All these practices are for achieving a business mission, vision, and goals. Due to this, the management sometimes has to outsource help to help in restructuring.

Furthermore, the new and competed employee is brought on board to achieve the set goals and targets. Rejuvenating a business has its merits and demerits that come along with the whole process. Some of the benefits are; improving the quality of the products, improving service delivery to the clients, new technology, and production increase.

Redesigning of the matatu industry in Kenya kicked off well from the year 2009 after the government banned fourteen seater matatus in the central business area (Mutongi, 2017). The investors in the industry came up with ways to restructure the original shape of the Toyota HiAce and buses and made them incredibly unique. Due to the return on investment went high. Most of the newly pimped matatus with graffiti and sound music systems attracted a lot of people. The young people between the ages of 20-35 are the main customers of these buses. Therefore a pimped matatu can make more than twice what the original coaches make in a day.

The service delivery to the passengers is on another level. In some buses, the passengers are offered snacks while onboard, some coaches are fitted with very comfortable seats and even have a VIP area (In Pulido, & In Darido, 2018). Passengers are also able to enjoy free Wi-Fi while on board to avoid boredom. Additionally, the buses are also fitted with charging systems where the passengers can charge their phones at the comfort of their seats. With all these additional services, customers would pay any amount of money to have a ride on these buses. It’s not once or twice that these vehicles have saved people from being hijacked at night, making people love them a lot.

Thirdly, a lot of jobs are now available for the youth. Especially those that are talented in drawing graffiti on these buses (Mutongi, 2017). Companies such as Choda Kenya have had the opportunity to employ many young people since every day, new vehicles come for body rebuilding and enhance. It has also led to the growth of the Kenyan music industry because this vehicle, besides being a piece of moving art they are also brand ambassadors of the music industry. The growth of the electronics business is a result of this. They fit buses with more than enough TV screens, powerful music system, and CCTV cameras for the security of passengers on board.

However, there is something that the industry didn’t do right. One of the wrong things is not bringing to an end playing of deafening music (In Pulido, & In Darido, 2018). Sometimes this vehicle can play loud music that is annoying to those on board and even those outside. Additionally, not regulating what should be drawn and not drawn on these buses. By doing so, they will prevent the drawing of the obscene picture on these buses. The other thing is finding a way of punishing those drivers and touts that bully other users of the road and overlapping carelessly.

Conclusion

For success to be achieved, the business redesign projects should adopt the top down structure. Business redesign should be accompanied by tools that make the entire process very easy to keep track and analyze. The business redesign enables a business to show significant improvements. However business redesign requires that big changes in the organization take place and also a change in the styles of doing work in the business. The essential changes that are needed in business redesign for instance include increasing the working styles, altering the job functions, identification of the needed knowledge and the values of the business or organization. Business redesign demands that time is dedicated in the entire process. It also requires enough resources to be allocated to the whole excersice in addition to intensive efforts. Business redesignis very essential in the process of enabling a company to make improvements interms of costs and realtime deriveries. Creation of job opportunities, increase in returns for the investors, bringing up a culture that the country is happy about, and it’s unique. It is improving the service delivery to an extent by issuing passengers with snacks, being able to access tablets fitted in these vehicles, charging systems, and Wi-Fi. All said, and done regulations should be put in place to get rid of those that are trying to bring down the industry by provoking the government.
