Guided Response: Read several classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of them. Do you agree with your colleague’s choice of research design for investigating the proposed research question? Why or why not? Can you suggest another approach or provide additional background information on the topic that could be useful in your colleague’s final proposal? Can you see any ethical concerns that were not mentioned by your colleague? Check your own thread for replies and respond to suggestions from others.

A research proposal is a higher level persuasive essay with tons of information. In other words, a research proposal is a way to convince readers that what you are proposing is important, giving that what’s, how’s, and why’s.
Research question:
How does childhood trauma cause behavioral and emotional change in adults?
Hypothesis:
When a person endures childhood trauma, this affects their behavioral patterns and emotional intelligence negatively.
An article I plan on using for this research , is an article I had previously found that I found very interesting and informative to what I am trying to find for my hypothesis. In a study conducted by Christian Connell, Samantha Pittenger, and Jason Lang, caregivers and their children displayed the same behavioral problems when exposed to potentially traumatic event (PTE) in their youth. In my study I want to find the relationship between childhood trauma and how it translates to negative behavioral patterns and emotional intelligence. It is known that trauma causes changes in the brain, thus when children are exposed to PTE the brain development is affected, which in term affects the way they behave and feel. The research design I will use is correlational research to understand the relationship between traumatic events in children and how that transfers to adulthood. This is the best way for the research to be conducted because I can take scholarly articles and their findings of PTE and conduct a higher scale comparison to find the predictive relationship (which I believe will be positive) between childhood trauma and behavioral issues in adulthood (including adolescence) and negative emotional intelligence. It is hard for me to conduct my own study, because time and subjects are limited (I am not allowed to interview trainees; which would be ideal to randomized subjects) and 10 Drill Sergeants wont be enough (that is IF all of my peers would like to take place in the study) to have a good amount of subjects. Furthermore, I am not qualified to interview or make psychological analysis in any of these subjects. Thus, analyzing information from other studies is best for my research. Lastly, potential ethical issues I may encounter are manily those of the studies I will use (thus it is important for me to thoroughly analyze the studies selected).

Purpose of a research proposal and its components.
A research proposal is when you are trying to convince others that the information that you are providing is relevant, important, and that you have the ability to prove it. Its components consists of key elements such as introduction, research question or hypothesis, literature review, and the research review and/or method.
Research Question
What mental and physical effects from experiencing childhood trauma impacts adulthood?
Hypothesis
Experiencing childhood trauma and stressful life events impacts our later life negatively mentally and physically resulting in anxiety, depression, and physical health issues.
Background
In the article I chose for this assignment, provided great detail on how the traumatic events that we experience at a young age have long term consequences. Between the years of 1996 and 2001, 23 studies suggested that trauma that occurred in childhood is related with later life issues. These events could be a singular event or even an accumulated series of events within range and intensity. Our bodies respond to the trauma psychological and/or physiological.
Research design appropriate for the research question.
The correlation research design is what I will be utilizing to understand the association with childhood traumatic events and how they impact our lives mentally and physically in adulthood. This design is appropriate because the variables are being measured to understand the connection and/or relationship between the two even if someone had experienced one or several events.
Potential ethical issues.
When conducting the study, it is imperative to ensure that no bias occurs in every aspect of the research. The goal is to make sure that the study is effective and honest. Data should be collected without misleading anyone. Most of all each participant will be informed and will be taken on voluntarily basis.
