Many times the workers’ compensation coordinator is somewhere far away in another state, at the corporate office, or may even be a contracted service. Therefore, the EH&S Manager is the most knowledgeable individual in the plant. With these variables in mind, develop a PowerPoint for important aspects of workers’ compensation that front-line supervisors need to understand.
The assignment is flexible so that you may choose what you feel is most important to the supervisors of the company, but the following questions should be answered:
What are the key points every supervisor should know about the company’s workers’ compensation program or laws?
What are some of the different types of coverage available? What are the record-keeping systems and reporting requirements?
Your PowerPoint must be a minimum of eight slides. Ensure the PowerPoint presentation has a title slide, an outline of topics to be discussed, and a reference slide at the end of the presentation. These slides do not count toward the eight-slide minimum. You must use a minimum of two resources in your presentation. All information from the resources used should be cited in accordance with APA Style guidelines.
WHATTO KNOW
ABOUT
WORKERS
COMP?
MICHAEL E DYMON
OSH 3306- UNIT VII POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

WHAT IS IT?
Workers’ compensation helps protect businesses and their employees from financial loss when
an employee is hurt on the job or gets sick from a work-related cause. Workers’ compensation is
also known as workman’s comp, workman’s compensation, and workers’ comp. These terms all
mean the same thing and help protect workers from potentially devastating costs of work-
related injuries. It also helps protect employers from potential damages that could cripple a
business based on workers’ comp claims. (The Hartford, 2020)
https://www.thehartford.com/workers-compensation
WHEN IS IT USED?
Whenever an employee is injured or has a preexisting injury that is worsened by something that
happened at work our Worker Compensation may cover the expenses.
All injuries should be reported immediately for this reason.
Injuries should be reported to the EHS Manager.
The EHS Manager will work with HR to have the incident information and employee information submitted to the
Workers Compensation company.
WHAT IF THE INJURY ISN’T SO BAD?
In the event an injury is minor all documentation still must be completed.
Let EHS and HR make the determination on whether to report the injury to the Workers
Compensation Company. Not you.
Injuries may initially seem minor although nothing can stop the injury from worsening down the road and then
requiring medical attention.
There is a limit on how long an injury/ case may be reported to Workers Compensation. After
that the Workers Compensation company may deny the claim.
WHAT WILL THEY COVER?
Medical
All medical expenses incurred because of
the injury will be covered through our WC
insurance. These will include anything
from medications, to Urgent Care or Dr
office visits, to any physical or
occupational therapies. It will also include
any hospital visits or hospitalization, as
well as any medical equipment that may
be needed.
Time Lost
After a set period of time WC will cover lost
wages of the individual. They may not be
the full amount although they will cover a
percentage. The wages don’t begin to be
covered immediately. There will be small
period of time till they kick in.
IS THERE A LIMIT
There is no limit to how much funds will
be given for Workers Compensation which
is what makes it significantly different
than any other type of insurance.
Workers Compensation will investigate cases
if needed and may look into other medical
documents of an individual to deny a claim
or to disprove the injury may have been
caused while at work.
DIFFERENT
TYPES OF
COVERAGE
Workers Compensation will have 4 basic different types of
coverages:
Workers Compensation will cover Medical Benefits that may be caused or
needed because of the work related injury.
Rehabilitation skills will be covered.
This will be care that is needed for an individual to be able to return to work and
may need work on strengthening skills and being able to complete there job
normally.
Disability Benefits from the injury. This can include Temporary Total disability,
Temporary Partial Disability, Permanent partial disability, or Permanent Total
disability.
Workers Comp Death Benefits. These benefits would be given to the employees
family members in the event of death due to the work related injury.
REPORTING
We can not stress enough
IMMEDIATE REPORTING IS
NEEDED by the Company.
Workers Comp in PA will require
that we report the claim to them
within 90 days of the injury for
them to cover it.
There may be questioning if
occurs very late from
when the initial injury occurs.
In The Company all claims are
immediately reported with the
Workers Comp company to obtain
a claim # for the individual.
If nothing is ever charged
toward the claim then it will
drop off and not affect
premiums.
DOCUMENTING CORRECTLY
Record- Keeping
All Records related to Workers Compensation must be kept “in lieu of the supplementary record
[(OSHA No. 301)] required under 29 CFR 1904, then these records must remain in the
establishment for five years after the year to which they relate. This exception is pursuant to 29
CFR 1910.1020(d)(1), and applies whether or not the workers’ compensation record falls under
the scope of 29 CFR 1910.1020. (OSHA, 3/5/04).
These records will be kept by employee in their own files and kept separately from there regular
employee medical files.
Our Company Policy is that the record will be kept for the entire time the employee is with The
Company and for a set period after they leave.
