Purpose
Benchmark #2 (BM#2) is designed to help you collect the data needed to meet the paper requirements. Specifically, BM#2 helps with the following paper components:
1. Introduce the high-risk behavior and target community
2. Discuss the size and distribution of the target community
3. Discuss how your community is affected by the high-risk behavior (using epidemiologic data)
4. Use the Socio-Ecological Model to discuss risk-factors that contribute to the high-risk behavior in your selected community
Skills
· Use of Data Bases and the Internet to find health and population information.
· Use of APA for citation and referencing.
· Analyzing sources to determine if they meet assignment criteria.
· Provide evidence to verify health disparities within communities/populations.
· Use evidence to link high-risk behavior to health outcomes.
· Use evidence to link risk-factors to high-risk behaviors.
Knowledge
This assignment will help you to become familiar with the following important content knowledge in Health Science:
· Data bases and web sites that contain current epidemiological data
· The vocabulary of community health and epidemiology
· Identify local & national resources needed for the successful implementation of a community health intervention.
Tasks
1. Identify a minimum of six academic sources that you will use in your paper. These are in addition to the sources used for BM#1. If you received feedback on BM#1 that you did not correctly identify the risk-factors, the population or the high-risk behavior–correct on BM#2 (do not resubmit BM#1).
2. Use the Template for BM#2 provided on BeachBoard (required).
a. Use full sentences (except for list), 3rd person perspective
b. Double space all text.
c. All text is paraphrased (in your own words) [only if absolutely necessary quotes may be used in a limited fashion (max of 1 for the assignment) and must be properly cited in APA with “…”]
3. Provide at least one key piece of information that you plan to include in your paper and include the APA citation for the following six details (only provide the specific items requested, providing information not requested may result in a reduction in points as it appears you do not know what was asked for):
a. Provide detail on the scope of the high-risk behavior (Scope = epidemiological data such as incidence/ prevalence) within your population
b. Provide detail on the Community/Population’s distribution (location, communities, etc., composition) and size within the U.S.
c. Provide detail on at least one negative health outcome associated with the high-risk behavior (show statistical association between high-risk behavior and health outcome)
d. Find an additional source that confirms the individual level risk-factor you found in BM#1 is associated with the behavior.
e. Find an additional source that confirms the relationship level risk-factor you found in BM#1 is associated with the behavior.
f. Find an additional source that confirms the community/organizational level risk-factor you found in BM#1 is associated with the behavior.
g. Optional/Bonus source: find a source that discusses cultural competence issues within your selected population.
4. Provide a reference list in APA 7th edition formatting.
a. Must have an author and a date
b. All references must have a corresponding citation (reference list not a bibliography)
c. Must be published within the last 10 years.
5. Submission: Submitted to Bench-Mark #2 BeachBoard Drop Box as a x [see syllabus for submission to Turnitin and proper way to name file (LastName_FirstName_BM2 x)]. Check that your submission has cleared Turnitin before due date/time. All submissions are considered final ½ hour after submission.
6. Review feedback to adjust/improve future submissions, inquire with instructor if any of the feedback is unclear.
Criteria for Success:
See Rubric below for point breakdown
1. Correctly identify the sources for the data required
2. Correctly extract information from the source
3. Correctly use APA
Benchmark #2 – Rubric
Do not include the rubric with your submission, will be provided in BeachBoard

Submit to the BB drop box, be sure to title your document (using save as) in the following format: LastName_FirstName_BM#2 x. Do not submit with the file name it currently has. If the table is split between pages be sure that the it doesn’t split a level. If you received feedback in BM#1 that you risk factors/interventions were not at the right level or that you did not provide a risk factor correct it on BM#2. All work must be paraphrased (see assignment instructions for details). Use full sentences and 3rd person perspective. Check that your submission has cleared Turnitin before the due date/time. All submissions are considered final 30 minutes after submission, or when the deadline is reached.

Where is/was the program: It is in different 15 communities in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.
Specific Target population/sample used for program evaluation: The target population is underage youth
Description:
This intervention includes 5 components of the project. These components dealt with the following issues, community policies, community practices, youth alcohol access, youth alcohol consumption, and youth alcohol problems. They used locals to help with this process by having underage decoys monitor alcohol sells at local outlets.
Risk Factors for High Risk Behavior
· Local events with alcohol involved
· The selling of alcohol to youth
· Easy alcohol access
Effectiveness of action being taken (program evaluation)
This project was very effective compared to other communities the communities that had CMCA had reductions in the number of DUI arrest between the ages of 18-21. The number of 18-20-year old’s trying to by alcohol went down. The number of consumers selling alcohol to underage teenagers also decreases.
· Insert Abstract or other Evidence directly from source
· “These measures included underage decoy operations with alcohol outlets, citizen monitoring of outlets selling to youth, keg registration, alcohol-free events for youth, policy action to shorten hours of sale for alcohol, responsible beverage service training programs, and educational programs for youth and adults.”
· Attempts by underage youth to purchase alcohol as well as levels of alcohol use and the propensity to provide alcohol to other teens were reduced among the youth (Wagenaar et al. 2000a).
