Executive Summary
The Boy and Girls Club is one of the longest-serving social work organization in the United States. It was formed in 1956 after a meeting of the Lions Club members who also decided to start a Boys and Girls Club. Later in 1971, multiple organizations merged to become the Boys Club of Tucson, formally referred to as one organization. The organization’s initial activities were majorly based on the young boys and girls in the society—the organization aimed at supporting children, especially those from humble backgrounds. As of 2008, there have been reports of over a hundred organizations who have terminated their organization’s licenses to join forces with the Boys and Girls Club, which had already established itself in the American society in helping the young children (Dudek & Stein, 1992). The organization has several permanent staff, but most of those who perform various roles and activities are reviewed at 95% as one of the successful Boys and Girls Clubs in the Pacific Region. The volunteers may be in the form of workforce or donations, which account for 40% of the operational costs, thus making the organization’s running easier.
Literature Review
Issues handled by the Boys and Girls Club
Boys and Girls Clubs are part of the social developments in society that help shape future generations’ dreams. As discussed above, the Boys and Girls Club, especially the Tucson Social Organization, is involved in matters of the younger generation in the United States. Various strategies and methods are deployed in various social work branches of Boys and Girls Club’s to help boost performance. The following paper aims to explain and highlight the issues around the Boys and Girls Club and its application impacts and effects on the affairs of the younger generations globally and its contribution to the social work organization.
The Boys and Girls Club is involved in the entire social work organization, more so on issues of young children. In the current society and entire world, children have become part of the endangered species that need to be catered for a protected for a better and promising future. The organization has a plan on how to handle the issues of the young children from vulnerable families in the society who are not in a position of having three meals per day or even means of education (Dudek & Stein, 1992). The Boys and Girls Social Organization have developed ways and means on how people can volunteer and join forces with the rest to ensure the young children in the society are catered for from their medical needs, educational needs and their general upkeep and developments. Volunteering has been playing a critical part in the development and performance of the entire club with its effects and impacts being felt in the society. The Boys and Girls Club is considered to be effective, especially when staff and volunteers are all involved in the course of the generational change. Boys and Girls Clubs deploys to the society and especially those from vulnerable families are addressed in a better way;
• Identifying the needy children in the society with the help of the volunteers and people within their neighborhood
• Determining the types of needs and challenges facing the children
• Developing strategies and methods that would help address the issues affecting the children
• Reviewing the methods and strategies put in place to determine the level of effectiveness and performance in the mission of helping the needy and vulnerable children in the society
The above four steps are essential in running the Boys and Girls Club Organization. To achieve better performance, address and handle an issue, there is a need to identify the needy group in the society, and the ways to employ in helping them. After determining the children suffering in the society, it is essential to establish the types of needs and challenges that guide the Club in the best way possible towards solving the issues affecting the young children (Dudek & Stein, 1992). Working on the children’s challenges and issues is the next step, which is the right path towards realizing the full potential of the young children. It is the right path in ensuring all the children access the basic needs and education for a better future. From the Club, they get to interact with others, exchange ideas, and exploit their talents through the provision of the required resources for talent development. To analyze if the goals have been achieved, the student’s progress is reviewed, and the objectives overviewed to determine their effectiveness in the process of child growth and development.
Advantages of the Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of social organization’s primary idea is helping the young generation who are from humble backgrounds realize their full potential in all the aspects of their lives, be it in academics, co-curricular activities, among other spheres, to enhance the performance of the young generation. Their performance and realization of their talents and potential is the aim of the Boys and Girls Club and would be considered as already realized goals and targets that would help shape the future of the region and possibly the entire world.
Having a plan that would help the vulnerable families build confidence in the young children that they too can realize their full potentials and change their lives. The Boys and Girls Club helps promote equality and offer chances to all, thus boosting the children’s performance in their different activities in life. Having such a club helps address health and malnutrition (Dudek & Stein, 1992). Considering the majority of the children are from vulnerable backgrounds, the majority would be having health challenges. Thus, the high need to address such issues by the Boys and Girls Club offers the solution to all. The combined efforts of the staffs, volunteers among others, helps in the following;
• Achieving an effective social work organization where all the children and especially those from vulnerable backgrounds, have access to the required resources and facilities for their general development
• Promotes better performance of the young children through the provision of resources and materials needed for better performance, thus enhancing the Boys and Girls Club’s better performance as well as the young children.
• The development of creating an environment where everyone is considered essential and equal helps in achieving a fair and better society that is equal to all.
Challenges faced by the Boys and Girls Club
In most of the Boys and Girls Clubs, several challenges come along the line of duty and service and duty delivery. The Boys and Girls Club hugely relies on donations and contributions from volunteers and well-wishers. Therefore, it is a challenge when the volunteers and the donations fail to meet the required and set budget, thus interfering with the Club’s activities. There are also instances of wrangles between the society and the Club on instances where some children are considered vulnerable. Still, their families are unwilling to let them access help from the Clubs (Dudek & Stein, 1992). The failure to meet all the children’s needs is a challenge since resources are limited, making it difficult to satisfy the needs of every child. In conclusion, Tucson Boys and Girls Club has contributed a great deal to helping vulnerable families in society.
Service delivery program description
The Boys and Girls Club is involved in the affairs of young children. It is through identifying the needy in the society and taking it upon themselves to cater to those children’s needs. For decades, the Club has been sponsoring and offering refuge to children from vulnerable families. Their operations are sustained by the contributions and donations made by volunteers from all over the world, which helps maintain their operations (Dudek & Stein, 1992). Talents and the promotion of talents are one of the critical functions of the Club. The Club plays an essential role in the promotion of talent and full potential from young children. For this reason, the Club has invested in several talents promoting activities like sport, music among other fields.
The Boys and Girls Club is involved in various activities like giving nutritious foods and snacks almost five days a week to the street families to enhance their survival. The Club also awards lottery to small-scale traders to help them improve their performance. The Club is also attributed to offering long-distance education to establish learning institutions where children who cannot attend classes in other institutions can afford to participate in such institutions (Hoben, 1913). The Club is also associated with other activities like offering online or virtual services to consult on various medical issues. The Club also provides a chance to the youths in the society who cannot secure any form of employment a slot to train on other skills and earn a living from the skills learned. Such skills and support to start a business are initiated by introducing and availing of internet connections via Wi-Fi in a quiet environment for maximum concentration and performance.
Mission statement, objectives, and goals
The Boys and Girls Club’s mission is centered on young people, especially needy children. The social work organization has a mission of providing care and services to the needy in society and, if necessary, helps young children shape their future. The vision aims at ensuring the young generation reach their goals and realize their full potential through adequate backing (Hoben, 1913). The Club helps the young children in their education, tracing them to a high school level, which assures a successful and hopeful future ahead. Providing a sustainable future to the young generation is the sole objective of the Club.
Stakeholders and Service Delivery
The Boys and Girls Club has various stakeholders. The primary stakeholders are the employees and the volunteers who take on the responsibility of funding their operations. Without the volunteers as the primary stakeholders, the Club would be operating in debt due to the massive finance injection needed. The secondary stakeholders are the administrative authorities responsible for awarding permits to allow the Club to operate. The community and society around the Club are also considered as part of the stakeholders since they contribute in one way or the other to the success of the Club’s activities (Dudek & Stein, 1992). All the stakeholders associated with the Club aims at improving the lives and the future of young children by sponsoring them in academic and talent promoting programs to help them realize their full potential.
Policy Manual
The United States’ national organization is mandated in organizing more than 1,100 Boys and Girls Clubs in the United States. The national organization would not guide all the organizations without applying similar and fair policies to all Boys and Girls Clubs in the United States. Tucson is one of the clubs. The national organization has drafted various policies that should be adhered to by all the Boys and Girls Clubs in the United States. The policies are used as the guiding policies and manuals used in running the Boys and Girls Clubs’ affairs in the USA. The policies include the safety policies, which cover and the young boys and girls in the social organization clubs (Dudek & Stein, 1992). The safety policies are not limited to checks and supervision from the authorities to ensure the young boys and girls, the employees, other staff, and the neighborhood’s general community. Criminal policies and manuals also apply since all young boys and girls must prove their identity and criminal records. The situation is not different to the rest of the employees to ensure safety measures are upheld.
Record Keeping and Documentation
Documents in the Boys and Girls Club are recorded electronically and stored electronically for safety, easy transmission, and access in any place. Storing data and records of such an essential organization with records vital for its performance like financial records and documents requires safety to enhance performance. Records are stored in databases to strengthen privacy and avoid duplication, distortion, or information and data loss. The data and records are secure since the software used to store the records, documents, and data is secured through a secret password, which is only available to those authorized to access the said documents and records. The better and secure means of data storage helps track and manage records, thus improving Boys and Girls Club’s performance.
Documentation in the Boys and Girls Clubs is vital since they rely on donations from state or private companies. The majority of the companies and corporations who donate to the Boys and Girls Club are required to see such organizations’ operations and the management of their funds. Documents in the organization are also essential since some young boys and girls may find well-wishers who may wish to adopt them. Thus, with proper documentation and records, it would be easier to transition from the clubs to their new areas of residence.
