This article discusses the opportunities that health care
providers have to maximize their patient care thru the use

of Wearable Technology.

There are new products out which can increase and individualize
patient data. These examples can improve case management
throughout different areas of health care and in workers’
compensation cases.

Shoe/sock/boot sensors can monitor a patient’s
stepping and gait, by providing a vibration when
a step is performed improperly. This gives the
provider information about their pattern of walking.

There are also shoe inserts used for GPS tracking,
used with adults who may wander due to dementia.

Wearable Jewelry is used to monitor sleep habits and
detect potential infections by tracking temperature,
heart rate, respiratory rate, and posture.

Overall the article provides examples of wearable technology that can
alert healthcare providers when a patient needs intervention,
personalize treatment thru more accurate data, affect therapy
outcomes and intervention, provide increased self regulation, and
reduce cost on claims.
