1.) The demographics that are most likely to impact the delivery of health promotion/education will be things like a more diverse population and the U.S. population becoming older. As far as the diversity the biggest changes wil be in the Asian/Pacific Islanders. The aging population will grow because people are living longer, having less children, and the baby boomers are reaching retirement age. According to the
United Nations
, the world’s population is expected to increase by one billion people by 2025. Of that billion, 300 million will be people aged 65 or older, as life expectancy around the globe continues to rise. “Here, the shifting cultural demographics mean healthcare systems that have evolved over decades no longer fit the needs of millions of patients.” The delivery of health education will be impacted by this because there will need to be changes made to be able to provide the best care for all ethnic backgrounds.
2.) Public Health Education Specialist: American Heart Association

Week 4 Discussion
1. What major demographic trends will most impact the delivery of health education/promotion in the next several decades? Why?
ANS 1). There are many demographic trends especially in the United States that are going to greatly impact the way health education/promotion is delivered. One of these trends is the changes in demographic profile like age group, sex, race, and ethnicity (Cottrell, R. R., 2018). Over the past 30 years, the U.S population growth rate has increased at about 1 percent per year. Although this stable growth pattern is probably manageable for the long term, but an in-dept study of the U.S. population by age group, sex, race, and ethnicity i.e demographic profile indicates that there is a significant difference from that of just 10 years ago. This consistently changing demographic profile, most especially, a greater percentage of minority residents and an ever-aging population will have an immense implication for the future delivery of health education/promotion. However, the reason why these demographic trends will impact the delivery of health education/promotion is, for instance, minority population changes or increase in that population means a massive change in culture in society. Also, the country and the conventional majority values and norms will be challenged as we become more diverse, more ethnic, and more integrated culture. Therefore, with the increase of racial and ethnic diversity, with diverse cultures in the U.S. health education/promotion will now have to deal with different cultural norms and values, and health educators will have to work across cultures to educate or promote health, which will take work. Aging population is another factor that will impact the practice of health education/promotion in the future. As reported by the Pew Research Center, lists persons aged 65 or older as currently representing 13.0 percent of the U.S. population. Between the years 2010 and 2050, the population older than 65 is expected to grow to equal 22.0 percent of the total population (Pew Research Center, 2014). Reason for the aging trend is that older Americans are living longer than before, married couples in the U.S. are having fewer children, and the oldest of the baby boomers are now beginning to retire.
