Directions

Each student must submit a Mind Map of his/her paper. A Mind Map is similar to the “webs” that you might have created in elementary or middle school when planning or outlining a paper. Rather than creating the web by hand, you will do so using Mind Mapping Software. You are free to choose any Mind Mapping Software that you like as long as your file can be shared as a JPEG, PDF, RTF, or DOC file. You may include clip art, photos, and hyperlinks. The Mind Map should include your research topic/question and a minimum of 5 branches that correspond to the 5 required sections of your paper: introduction, review of previous research, policy effectiveness, recommendations, and conclusion. Each of the primary branches will have, at minimum, three smaller (secondary) branches that reflect the main points that you plan to discuss.

The purpose of this assignment is to assist you in organizing your thoughts and research on your topic. This will help you to discover your ideas and thoughts about a topic and to prepare you to write a formal paper on the subject.

The grade for this assignment will be based on completion. As long as you follow the directions and complete it, then, credit will be awarded.

Some tips:

1. Research topic/question should go in the center of the mind map.

2. At least 5 branches (primary branches) should stem from the center each corresponding to the 5 required sections of the paper.

3. Each section of the paper should have 3 secondary branches corresponding to subheadings for each section.

Drug became America’s number one enemy with the increase use of drugs. Nixon began creating programs that will help in the aide to stop the distribution of illegal substance. Methadone Maintenance Program was created in 1971 and was the first program created to help stop the abuse of illegal drugs

Creates drug free communities

Policy should be eliminated- too much money spent on the policy.

Distributors and users will be penalized for the use or sell of drugs.

Increase racial tension, many arrest in drug related crimes are African Americans and Latin Americans.

War on Drug policy has spent trillions of dollars to decrease the use and sell of drugs.

Lengthy prison sentences for people who are caught with drugs is creating overcrowding in prison systems, which is creating high incarceration rates.

Instead of sentencing drug users to prison implement a mandatory drug abuse program for all drug users and legalize marijuana.

Help drug dealers with job and home placements.

Government should stop focusing on the enforcement and lean more towards treatment for abusers

Should focus on out-reach and school programs.
