Introduction (paragraph 1)

Hook—use the first three to five sentences to introduce the subject and gain the reader’s attention
Thesis—state clearly your point of view on the topic
Essay Map (plan of development)—briefly list the three supporting ideas you will use to develop your essay

Lesson 4 Outline Comment by Author: This is supposed to be an outline for the ENGL 1301 persuasive essay. Use this opportunity to test out possible titles.

I. Introduction

A. The rejoining of America into the Paris Climate Accord is timely and much appreciated worldwide. The impact is positive and wide-reaching and will influence the entire commitment to the accord of climate change signed by signatories in the world. America assented to the accord in 2015, and the Trump administration checked out in 2018 (O’Connell, pg 265). Comment by Author: Each new sentence should have its own letter or number.

B. America rejoining the Paris Climate accord has many positive effects on entire implementation because it will revive the goodwill of the international players to climate change and boost funding towards the commitment for reducing greenhouse gas emission (Yu, pg 290). Comment by Author: This may be a summary from Yu, but I am looking for your thesis, not Yu’s.

 II. First, America will revive the entire commitment to the implementation of the Paris Climate change among the players because it will reenergize, firm, and robust climate change mitigation policies globally, positively reversing the high green house emissions and negative impact associated with climate change (O’Connell, pg 265).

  A. _ Reduction of greenhouse emission (GHE)

1. America is the largest greenhouse emitter in the world.

2. Rejoining the Paris Climate change accord will revive its efforts to reduce GHE.

  B. Reviving Federal government commitments

1. Federal governments relaxed climate change policies after America rejected the Paris climate change accord.

2. Rejoining will revive federal governments’ commitment to the formulation and implementation of robust climate change policies that will boost efforts to fight climate change through the reduction of GHE.

  C. Food security

1. Climate change negatively affects soil fertility

2. High acidic gases in the air also corrodes plants and animals, causing diseases and low yields.

III. America rejoining the Paris Climate change accord will revive international climate change players because it will restore the superpowers’ international position in fighting climate change (O’Connell, pg 265).

A. Restoration of the International position

1. Rejoining the accord will restore America’s position as the key climate change player internationally.

2: This will boost its image and public goodwill to fight climate change

  B. Increasing international funding

1. The whole effort to rejoin the Paris climate change accord will regain international funding towards climate change mitigation.

2. International community will work together and control universal practices that increase GHG.

IV. Finally, rejoining the Paris climate change accord will improve response to climate change mitigation policies and practices internationally because it will increase enforcement and compliance of the accord (Yu, pg 290).

  A. Policy enforcement

1. America will use its power to compel countries to ratify energy production and use practices that reduce GHG emissions.

2: More institutions will receive support to assist in ratifying policies that will boost climate change mitigation measures.

  B. Compliance

1. America will ensure that countries that signed the accord comply with climate change mitigation measures consistently.

2. Specific countries and industries with high emissions will begin to research alternative sources of energy and raw materials that will reduce the impact on the climate (Yu, pg 290).

 V. Conclusion

A. America’s effort to rejoining the Paris climate change accord is timely and appropriate for boosting the overall fight against climate change. The effort of the international players to mitigate climate change will increase, many sustainable policies formulated, and enforcement and compliance increased. The overall impact will be the reduction of the rate of GHG emissions and the negative impacts associated with climate change.
