Abstract

Since the technological advancements has taken the world by storm, no one is safe from its influence and the need to use it all the time is always there. Due to such excessive usage of computer and internet, different threats and risks keep attacking the system that disturbs not only the system but also steal away essential files and data. Such actions can disturb the workability of cyber world, therefore, cybersecurity came into existence to fight such crimes. But the increasing amount of data has burden zed the cybersecurity, that is why, Artificial Intelligence is acquired for help. Since AI is about machine keening, it offers huge insight about data and different patterns that it learns through analyzation and processing. Number of advantages and disadvantages are there due to this combination of AI and cybersecurity. That is why, it is also termed as the futuristic approach to improve the cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence

Introduction

If we look around us, we see that everything has shifted to computers and we rely heavily on computer technology and the internet, whether it is a communication system or a transport system. The increasing trend of shopping online is proof that how much we are depending upon the internet and advanced technology. But as technology is increasing the risk attached to these systems and technology is also increasing. It also cannot be denied that some risks are more serious than others such as malware erasing all sensitive data or an attacker using your computer system to hack others. [The sudden shift to the second person point of view here (“your”) can make it unclear who you are addressing. Replace the second person pronoun with a third person pronoun or noun. Looking back a few decades, the risk factors and the threats actors were very minimum but with the advancement in technology, the intensity, value, and methods of cyber-attacks have evolved. Despite having the best protective system like different software, hardware, antiviruses, and malware detectors; cybersecurity has not been increased as it should be. Therefore, usage of Artificial intelligence is the option that is providing benefits to the IT industry and computer world. It is being evaluated that AI is the answer to all those questions that are troubling and related to cybersecurity.

What is cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a set of different technologies, practices, and methods that are designed to protect different forms of attack or unauthorized access to restricted areas. Cybersecurity works for not only the internet but all kind of devices, programs and different networks that need protection from any damage or attack. Therefore, the security that is provided to this system is referred to as cybersecurity.

There have always been different plans and procedures to increase security around the cyber world as a huge amount of sensitive data is found to be there and with the invention of such networks that allow one to store their data online, the risks related to cybersecurity are increasing. Therefore, it must be remembered that nearly all departments of a country including military, education, business, medical and government collect and store data on computers and other computerized devices. So, when a small amount of data is stolen, it can cause huge damage. The nature of cyberattacks is evolving as well as the hackers are also fully aware of new technological advancements and immediate, necessary steps that need to be taken to stop such attacks and protect sensitive information.  

What is artificial” Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is the machine learning that is capable of working and thinking like humans and display natural intelligence that is attached to humans only. With the passage of time and the way advancements are occurring, the Artificial Intelligence of AI is also gaining popularity. Its presence in the field of cybersecurity explains how well they can analyze, and understand the cybercrime. That is why it is being said that the future of cybersecurity is tightly attached to AI. Furthermore, it enhances the capability of cybersecurity providing technologies so they can offer greater protection to the data and networks.

But there are certain limitations when it comes to AI. AI itself is vulnerable to a few threats actors that can upset the working of AI and increase the security issues not only for the cyber world but also for users and programmers. Those risk factors are as under:

· Espionage – it provides useful insight into the system which can be very useful for hackers.

· Sabotage – through this factor, the functionality of AI can be disrupted and cause the AI system to crash with an overflow of requests and modifications.

· Fraud – this can cause the AI to perform incorrectly like misclassifying tasks

That being said, AI is still an option that is greater than others because it provides such insight about changes and before they can even happen, which is one of the best things as companies and networks can prepare themselves in advance.

Collaboration of cybersecurity and AI

The role of AI in cybersecurity is being praised a lot due to the services it promises to perform and deliver the best outcome. There are many reasons due to which cybersecurity can be increased with the help of AI and all industries know this thing because it has been observed many times. To understand the relation between AI and cybersecurity, one must look at how things have changed once AI entered the cybersecurity world. The input of humans to evaluate the change and recognize the change would take days, but AI has reduced the labor efficiency.

If one thinks that the need for AI in cybersecurity is not that much then they need to understand that as IT technology has increased, the capacity of attacks and intensity has also increased. Therefore, traditional ways of protection such as software, hardware installments, and online surveillance do not help anymore. “Despite the advancements in cybersecurity, online attacks are becoming more and more dangerous.” (Peterson, 2019)

Since AI uses algorithms to understand the nature of the attack or the system through which the attack can be made, it evaluates the system and look for different patterns and present forward the result with unrecognized changes, and alerts the security system. “AIs use computer algorithms to engage in machine learning to safeguard systems against cybersecurity threats. These programs recognize patterns in your system event logs and flag particularly troubling incidents for human review.” (Synoptek, 2018). Furthermore, AI offers different forms of protection from a different form of attack as it has been proved that AI delivers the best results by improving cybersecurity. “Fraud detection, malware detection, intrusion detention, scoring risk in a network, and user-machine behavioral analysis are the five highest AI use cases for improving cybersecurity.” (Columbus, 2019). when cybersecurity combined forces with AI, it produced different advantages. Some of the mains beneficiary points are as under:

· AI is capable of handling huge data – with the amount of data that is increasing rapidly, artificial intelligence can store them and the process then to learn about them, from them and then evaluate them to reduce the risk factors and fight the attacks.

· AI can learn more and more algorithms over time – since AI is a learning machine, it will keep learning, it will continue its learning and with time, it will become deeper. Due to such learning, AI will be able to recognize different patterns through which they would be able to predict change and then removed them as well. learning of algorithms will increase their ability to solve threats issues and become familiar with networks and their traffic.

· Data assessment – with AI having access to sensitive data, they would be able to differentiate between different sets of information and utilize them when needed to increase the cybersecurity.

· Supply chain corruption will be under checked and fought back and reduced – due to AI, supply chain issues can be fought back as the processed data will provide the insight of where the issue is arising from.

· Unknown Threats Are Easy to Identify – due to learning ability, AI will be able to recognize the unknown threats and remove them easily. [Do you have evidence to back this claim up? · Incident response – if any security-related issue has occurred, it will be counted acted immediately and if that is not possible, then there is a great option of incident report that provides useful insight about how the incident occurred.

Disadvantages

Despite having a long list of advantages and security-increasing options, AI can offer a few disadvantages as well. they are as under:
· Cybercriminals understand AI as well – since AI is being used to protect data, it can also be used to extract data. It is only a matter of time that hackers start relying on AI as they are leaning and utilizing it for smaller deeds since they can create AI-proof programs that will help to destroy any data set.
· Unemployment – when companies start using AI in place of human labor, unemployment is bound to occur which can trigger many social, psychological and regressive issues.
· Cyber threats Evolve – this is a part that is most worrisome because advancement is offering aid to everything and cyber threats are one of them as well. When protection need is increasing, it means that cyber threats are evolving and usage of the latest technology is also happening.

Conclusion

The need to have a stronger cybersecurity system is increasing because of the number of data increases and the need to protect it to avoid any unfavorable situation. The usage of Artificial Intelligence is such an option that offers a huge number of benefits but along with them, few disadvantages are also there. “AI systems are not yet advanced enough to be 100% accurate in distinguishing between malicious and benign activity.” (Rankin, 2018). But, this fact cannot be denied that the future of cybersecurity is directly related to AI and their collaboration is bound to bring in more than just security.
