negatively influence romantic relationships. Considering that technology has both positive and
negative impacts on society, the big question is how the balance can be achieved to provide the
overall results of claiming whether online dating sites are a positive or negative move.

was published in February the year 2020. All the authors of the report were motivated by the
fact that there is no clear side to online dating sites’ impact on romantic relationships.

impact on romantic partners’ interrelationships. The analysis provided based on the positive
and negative effects of online dating was intended to pass the message to the audience on

individuals can chat with others, hence giving dating less attention. The author argues that
dating has improved for the last five years due to people understanding dating sites and using
them to get suitable partners that rhyme with their likes, leading to
stranger relationships.
What is the form in which the message is conveyed?
The author used evidence-based strategy to explain the changes in dating, giving
examples of dating methods in the past five years and comparing them with the current dating
methods. Additionally, the author uses a persuasive technique to pass the message’s content
by the appropriate use of ethos, logos, and pathos. On ethos, the author related changes in
dating technology in consideration to ethics within the society. Modern technology such as
social media accounts has made things difficult to monitor and control, affecting the
implementation of social ethics negatively. On logos, the author used persuasion as an
application of symbols in the text by giving evidence how, in the last five years, dating was
different in the medium of communication compared to the current situation when the level of
technology is a high changing communication medium. With evidence, it is easier to visualize
the changes in how dating is being managed. On pathos, the article uses different words to pass
the message about the emotions of events happening in dating. It compares where modern
technology’s current use enables someone to have joy in the relationship despite the two
partners being far apart. Being able to communicate and see each other with the aid of video
chatting provided joyful emotions.

separating positive and negative impacts to give the audience a clear view of the content being

wrong choice of dating partner. Online users face negative consequences because they fail to

The online dating argument’s fallacy is that there are no guardians and older adults on
online social media accounts who can offer guidance on dating tips. It is not only through

generation Z engaging in online dating, it results in poor dating technique. It is an example of
online activities that lack guidance from professionals.

This section acknowledges the Americans’ views concerning online dating and all the

It includes the methodology used when collecting data to determine the influence of
modern technology on dating. Questionnaires were used to collect primary data from
Americans on their views concerning online dating.
• Findings
Around 30% of Americans have used dating sites, and only 12% got married through
online dating sites. Young adults are most likely to use dating sites, especially those who
identify as lesbians or gay. Around 57% of online dating users say they find the site positive. It
contributed to them having an opportunity to interact with someone, which eventually turned
up to be a romantic relationship. Only 42% said they had a negative experience dealing with
online dating sites hence it did not positively influence dating (Anderson, Vogels, & Turner,
2020).

providing interaction opportunities to meet new people. Through online dating, around 12% of
Americans find their marriage partners through continuous engagement. When online dating
sites are used in a positive way of strengthening relationships, it results in a positive outcome
experienced by the formation of marriages. Online dating users have also contributed to the
strengthening of relationships, especially for partners who stay far apart, and the physical
meeting is difficult. Dating sites provide an opportunity for continuous hating regardless of the
physical location allowing users to share videos and photos, which is one way of strengthening
the romantic relationship.
When internet users use online dating sites positively, it positively impacts the
relationship, which results in marriages for those partners who met on the online dating sites.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of internet users to understand the negative influence of
online dating sites and carry out their activities to enable them to get the best partners, which
can result in joyful marriage. In conclusion, those using an online dating site for their partners’
search have to be cautious and use it properly so that they don’t engage in immoral activity that
can damage the existing relationship instead of strengthening it.

Contrary to positive impacts derived from online dating, Americans believe that online
dating results in adverse effects in relationships of dating. Lack of proper monitoring and
restrictions in most dating sites, individuals engage in illegal activities which affect their dating
negatively. There is no close physical monitoring through online dating, which tempts users to
engage in a romantic relationship with more than one partner, which reduces the probability of
marriages. Online dating sites encourage immoral behaviors such as engagement in lesbianism
and gay which affect society negatively. When engaging in corrupt activities, online users
imitate what others are doing on social media networks instead of following what the
community and guardians require. Therefore, to benefit from online engagement, there is a
need for the user to avoid activities that might result in adverse impacts.
In conclusion, dating websites were created with better intention and has helped many
users improve dating relationships. Some of the partners met on dating sites, and currently,
they are living happily in marriage. But when online dating is not managed correctly, it affects
dating relationships negatively because they spent most of the time on other issues chatting
with other friends instead of concentrating on their dating.
