Under the OSHA Standards and Regulation, the Topic First Aid and CPR are identified with NAICS code 29 CFR 1910.151. Additional multiple standards requiring CPR are identified as 1910.269 for electric power generation, transmission, and distribution, 1910.410 for the dive team’s qualifications, 1910.146 for permits for confined spaces, among others (Laws affecting workplace health and safety 2015).

OSHA categorically states that there must be immediate first Aid treatment for any injured workers or employees in any workplace. This can be done either by training one of the staff in First Aid or ensuring easy access to medical facilities. This provides a quick response in critical minutes between the injury and availability of care (Michaud, 2017).

OSHA, however, does not provide training. It provides mere guidelines to be followed regarding first aid and CPR training. In numerous policies, OSHA ensures that workplaces are sufficiently equipped with skilled ad qualified personnel to enhance workplace safety.

There are ten most frequently cited standards. Can you find them (they are listed on OSHA.gov), and is your topic one of them?

Unfortunately, the ten most-cited standards do not include First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. The criteria include protection of falls in construction, communication of hazards, protecting the respiratory duct, protecting eyes and the face, avoiding ladder accidents in buildings, protecting from industry truck accidents, machine guarding, scaffolding in construction, and controlling energy be hazardous. Unfortunately, my topic, first aid, and CPR are not among the cited standards.

One accident that mainly occurs and would require First Aid and CPR intervention is ladder accidents. Ladders used might be small or not designed to carry the weight they are moving, thus posing a threat to the ladder’s user. To cub this, the workplace can appoint or identify an individual responsible for first aid and CPR in the organization. Additionally, the company can label ladders to ensure that the right ladder is used for the proper purposes.

Another accident that could occur in the workplace would be electrocution. If live wires are left lying all over, accidents will happen, leading to employees losing their lives or getting injured. To avoid this, circuit boxes could be designed in a manner that prevents moisture from entering the box and coming into contact with electricity.

Respiratory problems could prove a problem for both the employer and employees. This could be due to poor ventilation in the workplace, lack of masks to protect workers from inhaling harmful substances, and inadequate hand-washing facilities for workers to wash their hands after handling dangerous chemicals. This can be improved by ensuring that employers provide adequate working gear for their employees and constructing numerous aeration conditions.

Falling is also a hazard that occurs many times in the office. Slippery floors, unstable surfaces, and unsecured cargo could prove a menace to the employees at any time. To prevent this from happening, employers must ensure that surfaces are dry, or at least there are warning signs telling people that the body is wet. Another problem could be guarding company machines. Theft at the workplace is prevalent, and employers have recorded losses over-time. To prevent this, employers could employ security guards, an alarm system, and limited access to certain employees. This will ensure that people visiting or coming into contact with the machines are known.

How will you assess that your training worked?

Through conducting inspections, one can see whether the training was successful or the employees just ignored the training. By periodically reviewing health records in the company, one can be informed about the number of people injured in the workplace, and adequate measures can be put in place to counter the hazards.
