Identify at least two advantages and two disadvantages of having touch screen devices in the workplace. Support your response by citing a quality resource.
· Chapter 8 currently has the following subsections, keyboards and keypads, pointing devices, and speech and auditory interfaces. Predict what the subsections may be if this book were written 10 years from now. Justify your predictions.
Student “JN” Responded with the following:
Greetings Class,
Touch screens can be seen in nearly every department store or warehouse. The devices are lightweight, have Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities, and are rather simple to learn to use. Two advantages of a touch screen in the work place are the following: Increased Productivity and Increased Worker Satisfaction (Nelson-Miller, 2019). Increased productivity occurs when an employee is capable of completing a business transaction at their hands, rather than having to go back to the register and complete the sale. It also offers the employee a single location to lookup information and can be of assistance on the go, once again rather than going to a single location, it allows the worker to be more mobile, help customers and complete other tasks while still being able to complete sales and assist customers. Worker satisfaction arrives from the fact the employees are now able to use something very familiar to them, and touch screens are typically more fun to use and interact then the standard point and click mouse. Two disadvantages of touch screen devices in the workplace include: inaccurate touch field and loss of screen space (Lee, S., 2019). Inaccurate touch field makes it difficult at times to control what the touch screen does, the field can only be so large or small and depending on finger sizes may hamper the ability to accurately touch the right location, sometimes adding frustration to an employee especially when it takes multiple touches to complete the task. Loss of screen space occurs when the virtual keyboard appears, this often takes half of the screen, reducing the field of view and once again with touch being so delicate and the famous auto-correct can often cause more hassle then it’s worth to some individuals. Developers need to take note of some of these problems and attempt to make them better, especially when it comes to the keyboard and sensitively, there are have been far too many attempts at typing “Hello” and instead auto-corrected to “Hells no” or something completely different than what was wanted.
New interfaces that may appear in the book in the next 10 years could be the following: Retina and Sensory/Gesture. The fabled google glass was the market leader in retina interface displays, it was so intrusive that the world pushed back on it, but the fact is in science fiction movies and across multiple books some form of contact like “connection” will surely be in the near future when the eye will interact seamlessly with a computer interface. Sensory and gesture could also be coming very soon, it will be much more advanced the PIR or motion controlled typed devices, much like the Nintendo switch’s technology, that could become more and more used for many different tasks of the day, besides opening and closing a door or turning on a light.

“Collaboration and Social Media” Please respond to the following:
· While planning for a new project, a young developer mentions that she used Facebook as a collaborative group space for developing her senior project. She tells you that it was the ideal solution since it was free and all of her group members were friends with her. Further, she tells you that your company should do the same thing. Explain whether or not you think that Facebook would be a proper venue for your developers to collaborate. Give at least three reasons for your answer.
· Imagine you were going to be teaching this class next semester and you were given the choice to teach it asynchronously distributed interface, synchronously distributed interface, or face-to-face. Choose one of these techniques to teach the class and describe why you chose the presentation style you did. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages associated with the style you chose.

Good Evening Classmates and Professor,

I don’t feel Facebook is a proper venue for my developers to collaborate:
Facebook is too much of a social media site open to the entire world.
1. Lack of privacy – Facebook tracks users, tracks your browsing history and tracks you around the web, etc. Facebook also shares your information with third-party and Facebook has a history of violating privacy rules. Facebook is a for profit business.
2. Negative content – writing of offensive contents and comments, false accusations and allegations, spies, hackers, haters, spammers and negativity from each other.
3. Lack of control – developers would be unable to undo any collaboration that was done. Once you put something out it’s out no way to retract information. Readers could steal the developers’ ideas. Developers would have to be selective in their responses. You can’t control others from posting information that is inappropriate, to vital to the company, this could cause data about the company and the developers to be exposed that need not be exposed and could be detrimental to the developers and to your company.
I would suggest using more business like tools for developers to collaborate such as Teams, Skype, chat, video/audio conferencing etc. this allows you to ONLY invite those who really need to collaborate.

Choose one of these techniques to teach the class and describe why you chose the presentation style you did. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages associated with the style you chose.
I would use asynchronously distributed interface. Asynchronous training is like a self-paced training. It won’t require me and the students to be online or in person at the same time for instruction. It allows me, as the teacher, to create my courses so that participants can go through on their own with little or no help from me. However, I would make myself available for questions and help and inform the students when this would be in advance. Because as a teacher, my time could fluctuate so I wouldn’t have to have a set time/prepared time to teach. This form of teaching is extremely flexible. Also with this method when ready, you can always setup a time period where everyone who needs to get together in a course can have that capability by using Skype/teams, etc. to share screens and collaborate visually too.
With asynchronous, you don’t have to travel which could be costly and time consuming. This technique does not require students and instructors to be online or in person at the same time for instruction. You can go through the course on your own time which is extremely valuable for those with busy lifestyles. You can be in different time zones and not be affected. Learner controls the pace; you get to be in control in how, when and where learning happens. With asynchronous, it allows the teacher to allow their students to work at their own pace and allows individualization of learning (some students are slower leaners than others; so no student is affected slow learner doesn’t’ have to keep up with the fast learner and vice versa.
