Interests Assessments

Before signing up for this class my career goals are pharmacist and masters in psychology. I know many things about pharmacy because I have done research about pharmacy career, but a career in psychology I have not done any researching so I am still figuring out and exploring it. The reason why I want pharmacy is because I am interested in discovering new medicine and also because I want to open my own pharmacy in the middle east when I go back and live there. Also, for psychology to me it is so interesting and I love reading people’s body language, I do not do it on purpose it is just a habit that I read people’s body language. I also love guiding people and giving them advice, a lot of my friends will come up to me so I can listen to them and help/advise them if they needed, so helping others is part of the reason why I choose these careers. I arrived at these career goals by following my heart.

The most job characteristics I am interested in are Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors. The job characteristics that I am least interested in are Recreation and Fitness Studies Teachers, Postsecondary. I agree with the six categories that I was given for my result, because it pretty much describes my personality and what I love to do. I took my time thinking about what I want as a preferred job and career goal. I took about 2 years thinking while taking my associates and when I started on my bachelors I knew for sure what I wanted to choose as my career goal.

According to my results from the interest inventory, the kind of jobs seem to be a good match to my interests and preferences were Art, Drama, and Music Teachers, Postsecondary. The top three of the “Best Fit” career were Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors, and Art, Drama, and Music Teachers, Postsecondary and Environmental Science Teachers, Postsecondary. I picked those jobs because they are close to what I have wanted to do for a long time. Yes, the careers I was given were somewhat similar to my career goal. I tried not to let my determined career affect my answers to the interests inventory.

The assessment was an accurate measurement of my career interests, because it assured me that what I choose as my career before is what I definitely want to do. The surprising thing that I learned about myself by taking this inventory is that I am interested in Art, Drama, and Music.

Forensic psychologists play vital roles in the criminal investigation by the employment of psychological approaches to the situation. Some of the significant delegations include assessment of the prisoners, determination, and evaluation of mental disorders on criminals and defendants on trial and judgment of the criminal’s ability to withstand court trial through psychoanalysis. Bachelor’s degree in psychology, basic coursework coverage in law and criminal justice, and master in psychology are an educational requirement in forensic psychology. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a forensic psychologist’s salary ranges between $62,000 to 100,000 annually (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2014). Therefore, comprehension of this essential information in forensic psychologist provides more understanding of the concept for psychology major in practical and theoretical simulation.

Sports psychologists, as a professional career, provides fundamental psychological assessment and assistance to sports persons. Principal duties and responsibilities of personnel include mental preparation of athletes and other sports persons before and after the game, provision of psychological and spiritual approaches for application during sports activities, and administration of counseling activities, especially in recovery from injuries. Additionally, the job description requires an undergraduate in psychology-related fields for a compelling performance. The salary is an average of $75, 000 annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2014) classification and management of wages. The sports psychologist accommodates the field profession of the psychology major, thus, the central area of application in psychology.

School psychologist participates in myriad duties and responsibilities to shape the learning approach and motivation in a school environment. Major assignments to such occupations include evaluating student learning problems, providing guidance and counseling to the learners and their families, and administering the best teaching and learning strategies in a school environment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2014), the salary for the junior ranges between $40,000 to $60,000 with seniors of working experience of 20 years accumulating a salary of $ 100,000 annually. Psychology major undergraduate and graduate under related fields fit the job description. The analysis and investigation of the job impact decision on current and further appreciation, simulation, and implementation of the knowledge in woke force.

etc. Is graduate school a good fit for you? Why or why not?

 Your major career goals and the sub-goals (e.g., internships, courses, graduate
education, etc.) needed to reach those goals. If one of your chosen occupations
requires graduate education, what are the requirements for admission to
graduate school in the area you have chosen? What will you need to do in order
to be competitive for these graduate programs?
