Text

This is the week you have been waiting for— to see if you are walking home a pretend millionaire, or whether you would be finding a side job to recoup
your losses!

This is the last of the three stock journal assignments that you will complete during this course. For this assignment, you will add your work for Week 10
to your previous work from Weeks 3 and 8, following the instructions below. Two templates have been provided for your use. One template is where
you will enter your chosen companies, the share prices, and the number of shares you will be purchasing given your budget of $25K. The other
template is where you will write your rationale/summary. Please download both templates, then complete, save, and upload both templates to
Blackboard when submitting your work.

Instructions
For Week 10, review your investment for the last time and complete the following:

1. Record the current price of the stock for each company you selected in Week 3’s Stock Journal.

You may use any price during this week (e.g., day one price, the opening, the low, the high, the close, or any price you find when you
check it during the day). Use the MS Excel spreadsheet or MS Word document to put your Week 8 and Week 10 stock prices side-by-
side, to show the comparison.

2. Determine the total value of your investment.
3. Provide your final opinion/assessment of your investments.

Consider the following questions as you provide your assessment:
Did you make money or lose money?
What were your results?
Based on hindsight, what you would do differently?

4. Discuss what you learned from this assignment and how this assignment could help you in the future.
5. Use at least two quality references. Consider using the sources of information ideas above and/or searching and locating resources from the Strayer

University Library. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
6. Submit two documents for your journal assignment submission by uploading them to the assignment submission area:

Completed Excel template with Week 3, 8, and 10 complete.

Text

This is the first of three stock journal assignments that you will complete during this course. For this assignment, two templates have been provided for
your use. In one template, you will enter your chosen companies, the share prices, and the number of shares you will be purchasing given your budget
of $25K. The other template is where you will write your rationale/summary. Please download both templates, and complete, save, then upload both
templates to Blackboard when submitting your work.

Scenario
Capital markets and the ability to raise funds for corporate uses are essential to the U.S. economic system. For this assignment, imagine that you have
$25,000 to invest in U.S. companies. You are buying used stock. The company got the money when it issued the stock originally. You will be buying it
from an existing owner.

You are investing, or buying, the stock because you believe the company will make money and pay you a dividend in cash. Each share of stock that you
buy entitles you to any dividend declared and a vote at the annual stockholders’ meeting.

https://atlas.capella.edu/Course_Files/cf_weeks_3_8_10_stock_journal_writing_assignment_template

The stock also allows you the ability to earn your money back by selling the stock. Of course, investing in stocks is risky and there is the possibility that
the stock you buy will be worth less when you want your money back. The company is not obligated to give you any of your money back. You will only
get your money back if another investor wants to buy your stock.

Instructions
Using the above scenario and the resources listed below, complete the following directions for your Week 3 Stock Journal entry:

1. Select three US companies that are publicly traded using your knowledge and experience and make sure you are practicing good diversification. Jim
Cramer, Money Manager, on CNBC, plays a game at the end of his show called “Am I Diversified.” Check out the short clip, Am I Diversified – Mad
Money [Video], to get a sense of industry diversification.

Ideas for Sources of Information: There are many ways to find such companies and the stock prices, including the New York Stock
Exchange, Google Finance, NASDAQ, and Yahoo! Finance.

2. Describe how you will divide $25,000 across the three companies (e.g. $10,000 in Company 1, $10,000 in Company 2, and $5,000 in Company 3).
You decide the amount you are investing in each company. You do not have to provide any analysis to justify your decisions.

3. Provide a reason for picking each company.
For example, you might invest in Ford because that company gets a lot of your money and you hear that Ford is doing well, and will
continue to do well.

4. Identify the number of shares you are buying, and the price of the shares you are buying for each company.
Once you decide the companies and the amount for each company, determine how many shares you can buy. For example, if Company 1
is selling for $42.16, then you may buy $10,000/$42.16, or 237.19 shares. But you cannot buy a part of a share, so you decide to buy
either 237 or 238. In this example, you buy 237 shares at $42.16 per share, investing $9,991.92. You won’t be able to buy exactly
$10,000, or $5,000, or $25,000, but it will be relatively close.

5. Use at least two quality references. Consider using the sources of information ideas above and/or searching and locating resources from the Strayer
University Library. Note: Wikipedia and other websites do not qualify as academic resources.

6. Submit two documents for your journal assignment submission by uploading them to the assignment submission area:
Completed Excel template.
Completed Word document template with your rationale.

Note: This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in
the left-hand menu of your course.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:
Analyze the performance of an investment portfolio over time.

Weeks 3, 8, and 10 – Stock Journal Project Excel Template [XLSX].

Note: The above Excel template has been provided for your use for the stock journal assignment. You will notice that there are directions for
your work in Weeks 3, 8, and 10. When submitting your assignment for each week, you may use the provided Excel template above, your
own Excel template that you create, or a Word document that you create as long as it communicates the requested information.

Summary

Text

For this assignment, you will read the scenario and then use the provided Excel and Word document templates to complete your assignment before
uploading them to the assignment submission area.

Scenario
Larry and Beth are both married, working adults. They both plan for retirement and consider the $6,000 annual contribution a must.

First, consider Beth’s savings. She began working at age 20 and began making an annual contribution to her IRA of $6,000 each year until age 32 (12
contributions). She then left full-time work to have children and be a stay-at-home mom. She left her IRA invested and plans to begin drawing from her
IRA when she is 65.

Larry started contributing to his IRA at age 32. In the first 12 years of his working career, he used his discretionary income to buy a home, upgrade the
family cars, take vacations, and pursue his golfing hobby. At age 32, he made his first $6,000 contribution to an IRA and contributed $6,000 every year
up until age 65 (33 contributions). He plans to retire at age 65 and make withdrawals from his IRA.

Both IRA accounts grow at an 8% annual rate. Do not consider any tax or inflation effect.

Instructions
Create a chart summarizing the details of the investment for both Larry and Beth.
Write a one-paragraph summary in which you explain the results in terms of the time value of money for both Larry and Beth. (Hint: discuss why
one person was able to save a great deal more than the other.)

Note: This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in
the left-hand menu of your course.
