POWER POINT ON KAMALA HARRIS
DUE IN 5 DAYS
INSTRUCTIONS ARE ATTACHED
Informative Speech – 100 points
This is your first formal speech. You will first create an outline to use as a guide for your presentation,
using outside resources such as websites and the library database to find information to share with your
audience. More information on the outline is provided in the weekly module. It is a separate assignment.
The PowerPoint you should make is also a separate assignment. The instructions for the âspeechâ are as
follows:
Choose a person whom you wish to âinformâ your audience about.â Examples include a
celebrity, sports figure, president/CEO of a company, someone from history, etc. It must be
someone you can find information about from at least 3 sources (websites, books, database
articles, etc.). You cannot give a speech about a family member or friend.
â Record yourself giving a â4-6 minuteâ speech.
â You must stand fully and record far enough back where I can see you standing.
â Your speech is going to be based on your outline that you create first. See these
assignment details in the weekly module.
â You may use notecards or a printed copy of your outline to help you stay on
track.
â You should cite at least â3 sourcesâ in your outline, on your reference page (listed in APA
or MLA format) AND verbally during the presentation. An example of this: âAccording to
a 2019 article published in the New York Timesâ¦â
â You should create a âPowerPoint (or Prezi)â to use in the background as you are
presenting. Do not hold your computer with the PowerPoint. Connect it to a TV or set it
on a table behind you as you are presenting. This is a separate assignment you will
submit. See weekly module for more details.
â Business casual is recommended. Points will be taken off for extremely casual wear
such as pajamas, sweats or distracting clothing.
Some miscellaneous tips:
â Introduction: Begin with an attention-getter. This could be a quote, question, etc. Donât
just tell us your name and who you will be presenting about.
â Body: Include about 3-5 main points describing your person. Some main points may be:
who they are, their accomplishments, why they’re important to you, etc.
â Remember, this is an âinformativeâ speech. This means you will educate us about
this person. You should not persuade us that this is your favorite person, actor,
etc. (although it may be, donât let it be too obvious to your audience!).
â Conclusion: You will wrap up by briefly recapping your main points. Include a very brief
summary and end with a concluding statement (NOT âThatâs itâ!).
â Upload your video recording of yourself giving the speech on YouTube and make the
settings “âUnlistedâ”. Once you click on this assignment, copy and paste the link to your
video and press submit.
â There are examples and other helpful tips provided in this weekâs module and in the
âWelcomeâ folder.
â Donât forget–you should create an outline first, then the PowerPoint, and then use those
to give the actual speech.
Audience ârequirementâ:
Typically, an audience of 3 adults is required for all college-level speech classes in Texas.
Given the circumstances of the pandemic, please only use people who live in your household or
who you are comfortable being around. If you do no thave three people for an audience,
consider using FaceTime or Zoom to have an audience âelectronically.â
* If you are unable to get audience members to watch you as you are presenting this semester,
no deduction will be made due to COVID.
Informative PowerPoint Assignment – 20 points
This is the PowerPoint you will create to use during your informative speech presentation. It should be
included in the background of your speech recording. You will not read from it directly; instead it helps
your audience have a visual while you are talking about your topic. Hook it up to a TV or have it placed on
a table, bookshelf, etc. behind you as you are presenting. Do not hold up a device that has the
PowerPoint.
The PowerPoint should include the following:
â Introduction slide – title of presentation and student name
â 1-2 slides per main point
â Conclusion slide
Miscellaneous tips:
â The title of the slide should be larger font than the rest of the slide text
â Text in the body of the slide should be around size 24-32
â Use around 25 words or less words on each slide.
â This will help you use a conversational style while presenting instead of being
tempted to read from it directly.
â Use clear images. No more than 4 images per slide
â You may also use Prezi or Google Slides, as long as I am able to access it in proper
format.
