Do you think physicians should or should not have the right to treat the patients they want to treat? Why?

As you respond to your classmates, discuss issues that might arise from a physician-patient relationship if the patient is the physician’s family member.

I do believe that physicians should have the right to treat the patient’s they want to treat. Many things get in the way of patients being treated. Insurance and money being some of the biggest. Insurance may dictate what physicians you can see. Some insurance is taken by some physicians but not others. Additionally, some physicians require a referral to make an appointment. This makes it difficult for physicians to treat the patients that they want. All of this goes into the issue of money. Money is the biggest driving factor in health care. A patient  may not be able to afford the physician they want. Especially if that physician is not in network. Without insurance, the cost of health care becomes very expensive. Physicians are also sometimes bout by what insurance will pay for. Physicians are bound by a large amount of things. Unfortunately, Money and insurance have become a very large hurdle for patients and physicians a like. 

I have experienced this issue personally. I found a dentist near where I live to be set up as a new patient. I found then through my insurance’s website. The website stated they were accepting new patients. All seemed well.  I called to make an appointment with issues. I received a call the next day by the dentist office saying there was an issue with my insurance. When I called my insurance provider they stated that I had to set that office as my primary dental office. But I could not do that, the office had to. However, the dentist office stated that the insurance company had to set that up. It was very frustrating. I eventually got it all figured out. Two weeks after my appointment, I received a letter stating that the office would no longer be accepting my insurance. I liked this dentist and I have not found one that I liked as much. Because of insurance and money, I had to find a new dentist for the same work and services I was already getting.
