5%

· 1” margins;
· Font / size: Times New Roman, 12 pt;
· Text line spacing – double-spaced

This part/paragraph briefly introduces the source work to lay a groundwork for your upcoming comments and evaluations. Criteria:
· central idea and main points of the source
· ideas presented clearly, accurately, and precisely in your own language (quote is allowed)

Rhetorical Analysis & Critical Response
30%

Thematic as well as stylistic analysis of the source work
Two critique skills are involved: rhetorical analysis and critical response. Points:
· how issues are addressed through what rhetorical skills, argumentative strategies, or other devices …
· evidences have to cited from the source to support your evaluation of the source thematical or stylistically; meanwhile, your judgements, evaluations, or claims are expected to be supported by some external sources or academic researches on the same or similar topic; for example, when discussing social problems, you might say “a dystopian or dehumanized society was also the concern of George Orwell’s 1984; however, it was addressed in a fictional way” (Orwell, 1949).
Remember:
· do not make too much expansion; always focus on the work you are critiquing
· ideas are logically and coherently organized

Conclusion
10%

Roughly
· restating your main idea/attitude/evaluation
· summarizing key points
· calling for actions or recommending improvement
