Informative speech due on Feb 15 attached are the requirements
INFORMATIVESPEECH ASSIGNMENT
Rationale:
There are many in which you may be called upon to give an informative speech. Whether you are
describing how a process works or teaching a skill, much of our time is spent teaching others. This type of
speech is essential in our everyday lives.
Assignment:
You are asked to prepare an informative speech to present to the audience. You may discuss any concept
or theory. When you select a topic, consider the following: It can be one you are interested in, one you
want to learn about, or one that you are learning about in another class. You will need to indicate the
relevance of this topic to your audience. A power point presentation is required as part of this speech.
Requirements:
1. Informative speeches are designed to inform. Try to word your speech in such a way that the
audience can learn the information you are teaching. Giving information the audience already
knows is no way to keep their attention.
2. Speeches should be between 5 and 7 minutes in length.
3. A power point presentation is required. You must use Power Point but make sure you don’t read it
to us. Make it effective by reviewing the section in your text regarding visual aids. If you have an
object you should not pass it around to the audience.
4. Research is required. You must conduct research on your topic. You are required to have at
least 4 scholarly sources on the reference page, and mention all 4 appropriately in the speech for a
score of good. If, however, you would like to have a score of excellent, you will need at least 2
more scholarly sources.
5. Extemporaneous delivery is expected. DO NOT memorize or read your speech. Work off your
note cards or outline to become familiar with your material so that you are speaking to your
audience.
6. Use a clear organizational pattern. The work that you put into your outline before your speech will
pay off in a clearly organized and logical speech. A speech with no clear organizational pattern or
structure will be penalized.
7. Dress professionally. A clean appearance will help your credibility and confidence. Don’t wear
anything that can distract your audience away from your speech. No hats or head coverings are
permitted, unless for documented religious reasons.
8. Work with your voice to maximize effectiveness. A speaker who speaks too fast or too quietly
to be understood is not an effective speaker. Use notes to remind you to slow down, or speak up.
9. You must submit an outline, a complete reference page in APA format, (.PDF or pictures) of
each source listed on the reference page. You also need to submit a relevant Power Point
presentation. Any late work, while accepted, is graded following the FTCC late work policy.
NO EXCEPTIONS. Please consult the Policy in the Syllabus.
