“Command and Natural Language” Please respond to the following:

· The president of your company approached you with his iPhone in one hand and his iPad in the other. He has just purchased the iPhone 4S and is fascinated with Siri, the voice recognition software. He then pulls up an app your team developed for the company a few months ago and tells you that he wants it to work with voice commands just like Siri.  When you pass this information on to your team, the news is met with groans and angry expressions. One of your developers tells you that it would be way too complicated to add voice recognition into the app and that you should have said no. Suggest three techniques to overcome the challenges of implementing natural language into interface designs.

· Sally, a young developer, requests a meeting with you to discuss a project. Sally tells you that she wants to develop a new application in a computer language she has developed, hoping to use the project as proof of concept for her newly developed language. Your firm encourages technological development and advancement and has allowed similar developments to happen in the past. Discuss with Sally what is required to be considered an effective computer language. Suggest three characteristics that make up an effective computer language. Support your response with evidence from the textbook or an article you

There are two discussions here that need to be responded to thoroughly. Responses must be on APA format 150+words 1-2 legitimate verifiable sources per response.

Student: “Several techniques can be used to deal with challenges associated with natural language at voice interfaces which include building trust among the workforce, increasing usability and establishing new discoveries in accordance with the well-being of the employees”

Professor: thank you for the response to the discussion question. Would you please take a little time and explain several of those techniques for overcoming the natural language challenges? And also address the question about Sally and the language that she  hopes to invent? Dr. D.

Greetings Class,

Although the boss might want voice commands in their new application, it could be a very difficult and daunting task. It’s important for the manager to hear the developers our and then explain the scenario back to the boss. There are several challenges that must be overcome in order to add “natural voice” processing to an application: People, Clarity, and Generalization. (Jade, T., 2015)  In order to overcome the people challenge, it’s important to hire the right talent to be able to overcome this issue along with equipping them with the proper tools. Linguists are a great resource to answer this challenge. Clarity is understanding what is being spoken, for instance liking an object not liking an object can both seem like positives; however, the ‘not’ turns it into a negative. Language processing should be able to understand this and properly process what is being said. The final challenge of generalization can be overcome by statistics, processing, and analytics to gain insight into he the current conversation as well as past vocal commands. The most important aspect is to “do the math” and analyze past and current data to properly understand what is being asked.

There a many characteristics for good computer language; three of which are the following: Naturalness, Efficient, and Extensive. (Hasan, A., 2013)  Naturalness deals with the way the language flows and works, this means that it should flow and help guide the application/program it is wrote for. It should be easy for other programmers to review and understand what is occurring, a language with a single point of failure is not useful at all. Efficiencies come from the new language to be efficiently compiled into a program that can be easily read on a system. Compilers should complement the language and easy translate into the proper format to be read from the computer/system. Extensibility deals with the ability to add an extension to the language that does something on it’s own or wrote a little different, but because of the extension it language can read the extension and properly process it.

“Developing Commands” Please respond to the following:

· You have just finished reviewing a design project your team has submitted to you and noticed that the team members used a great deal of command abbreviations. Explain to your team the value of using abbreviations for commands and give them at least two advantages and disadvantages associated with using abbreviations. Support your answer.

· From the e-Activity, Amore’s and Quesada’s article discusses the challenges of incorporating Natural Command Language Dialogs (NCLDs) into a phone system. One challenge pertains to sources of conflict in NCLDs. Discuss potential sources of conflict with an interface that you frequently use and devise a solution for preventing the conflicts.

Student
: “Using abbreviations in designing projects have an impact on saving on time as they are shorter and more comfortable. However, not all people can understand what a particular command abbreviation mean…”

Professor:
What are some ways to fix that abbreviation problem?

JN post states the following:Top of Form

Greetings Class,

The use of abbreviations for commands can be both extremely helpful and potentially harmful to a project. Most organizations do enjoy abbreviations, but its vital to have a guide to ensure proper continuity between the different development teams. Flexibility and efficiency can be achieved through the use of abbreviations, function keys, hidden commands and macro facilities. (Wong, E., 2020) Two advantages of abbreviations are faster and more efficient programming, and quicker delivery times and faster applications. Fast and efficient programs comes from the ability to shorthand longer routines/code into something smaller making it much easier to type out and complete it. Project delivery is enhanced due to the coders being able to complete the work faster and therefore a finished product can be released also the code will run much better by being reduced in size.  Two disadvantages to abbreviations are new coders that do not know all of the current abbreviations and loss of knowledge/code base. New team members will take some time to get up to speed on the shortened method of programming, this could mean a push back or mixed code in a project making it hard for someone else taking over. Loss of knowledge could occur from lack of proper documentation on the way the org shortens their programming, or if the company goes out of business a new company taking over the project may not be able to run it properly and would most likely have to build something new or spend time reverse engineering it.

Sources of conflict in NCLDs include the following: unknown functionality, and lack of collaboration. One interface that contains some of these conflicts is TI-83+ calculator, although the basic functionality is extremely simple, it does have some very advanced functionality that are more often then not unknown and very hard to fund information on it. The inability for the calculator to explain how to do certain functions makes it very hard to attempt to learn how the advanced in fact work.
