Criminal Justice Assignment 1: Procedural Law and the Bill of Rightswk4
The Bill of Rights finds its roots in documents such as the British Magna Carta of 1215 AD. It was one of the first documents that provided the common man independence from a monarch. It did imply that the federal government’s law dominated all others; however, it gave each state control of any laws outside of those reserved to the federal government. The Bill of Rights acts as a blueprint that every individual state uses to protect the rights of individual citizens. In this assignment, you will utilize the various concepts found in the Bill of Rights to provide the foundation of the various sections of the assignment.
Write a 4- to 6-page paper in which you:
1. Compare and contrast two of the sources of the rights and fundamental principles found in the United States’ legal system as outlined by the text.
2. Critically analyze and discuss three steps of the criminal justice process from arrest to imprisonment.
3. Identify and discuss the particular amendment related to arrest, search, and seizures.
4. Compare and contrast the concepts of probable cause and reasonable suspicion. In your own words, explain how they are similar or different.
5. Examine and discuss the two examples in which the exclusionary rule may not apply.
6. Identify and discuss one contemporary issue or case law related to the use of force from within the last three years.
7. Use at least four quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Week 4 Discussion
“Arrests and Use of Force” Please respond to the following:
· Examine the “Police Use of Force” article from the e-activity and discuss the use-of-force continuum and how much force should be used during an arrest. Then, analyze the interrogation and questioning process that law enforcement officers can conduct after a justifiable arrest. In your own opinion, determine whether or not you believe that these processes restrain officials from obtaining information related to crimes and include in your thoughts how the Miranda rights relate to your ideas. Then, examine the e-activity article and discuss the use-of-force continuum. Justify your answer.
· Reply to the post of at least one of your classmates with a meaningful reply that compares or contrasts the classmate’s post to yours or adds further insight into the topic. A meaningful Reply will typically contain at least 100 words.

RE: Week 4 Discussion
The use of force is only to be used when necessary such as when there is a threat to society and their verbal commands are being ignored. If an officer tell someone to stop running away and put their hands on their head, the officer can use a taser when in range instead of so many open fire cases. Pinning someone down to the ground is a use of force but they are only supposed to do it to get them handcuffed. It does not take 5 officers sitting on someone, smashing their head into the grass suffocating them, which is called excessive force. Sometimes when some people are high on unknown drugs, tasing them will not stop them from attackng you so excessive force is sometimes needed but spraying someone is always the other answer, that works the majority of the time. Sometimes officers forget to read the suspect their Miranda rights which will send a person home. Your Miranda rights are always to be read when getting arrested. This is your rights to remain silent and do not say anything that can be used against them in court just as I did not do it, Jackie did it, she told me to.
Interrogation and questioning process after a justifiable arrest can be done in an interrogation room at the police station. Questioning someone about their whereabouts and who was there with them before during and after the crime. If you knew about a crime happening and wasn’t there, you can still be charge. Withholding information can also send a person to jail or get fined. Sometimes the officers will lie about something to see if you will tell the truth or tell n yourself and others. Many times they will say they have proof or your DNA at the scene of the crime but with not proof in front of you, a lot of cases can get dismissed if the evidence isn’t true. Questioning the suspect hoping they are telling the truth so officers can have a case to present to the DA.
Many times detectives and officers go to hard on suspects and they crash meaning they will tell them everything they know, and other times they are not hard enough and they end up with n case. I believe that in a true crime such as murder, attempt, hit and run cases that the detectives need to be firm and strict when finding the right information.
Week 4 Extra Credit Discussion- Are Police Allowed to Lie When Interviewing a Suspect?
Hi Class,
Please watch this VERY short YouTube video that explores this question (excuse the ads!)
Is it lawful for police to lie to a suspect during questioning? Why? If so, what limits should there be on lying during questioning a suspect? If it is not okay, explain your feelings/opinion about this practice and why it is not okay.

World Religion Discussion Question wk5
As we discuss Chinese religions, how can the Confucian Virtues, the Dao, and wu wei be used in our daily lives?
Part 1: Please respond to the following:
Confucius wrote of the “Superior Person,” in which every normal human being cherishes the aspiration to become superior to their own past and present as they set their sights on “perfect virtue.” When the basic Confucian principles and his notion of ren (pp. 207-208) are guided by virtue, relationships should work a certain way.
At the heart of Daoism philosophy is the concept that the universe works harmoniously according to its own ways and we should be in harmony with the universe. The principle underlying our oneness with the Tao is that of wu-wei, or “non-doing.”
Main discussion questions for the week:
Many in America say we have lost our virtues and we are too chaotic.
· Identify and explain at least three (3) aspects of wu wei and Confucian virtues that would be practical in the busy lives of Western city dwellers.
· Then discuss whether you could adopt these practices. Why or why not?

I believe the Confucian virtue of ren would be practical in the busy lives of Western City dwellers. Ren is considered a person that not motivated for their own benefit or personal profit but to do what is moral, not worry about what people think and be mindful of their parents and be an overall a good person. I believe many of the western city dwellers have migrated to be only involved in their selves and what’s better for them and at times rude so I believe Confucius virtues of humanness and faithfulness would be a virtue city dweller would benefit from. The wu-wei concept or state is that you’re in connection with yourself in the aspect that everything you do seems simple and just an every day action. I think this concept would benefit many people in the city. People in the city are usually always busy or stressed out so using this concept could help them just be themselves and create a state of ease for them.
In today’s world and having adapted to how society acts with one another, I think I could try to adapt to these principles but for people in the city they would be hard for them to adhere to. I may have a better chance to adapt to these because I already try and be a good person so it may be easier from the Confucius virtues. The hardest one I would have a problem adapting to would be the wu-wei concept. It’s hard to have that connection with yourself to the point everything you do is simple and essentially not stressful. Life throws different things at you which I think would complicate trying to adapt to this way of thinking.
Thanks

American History
Part 1: Post a Response
Various reform groups with various causes developed in the US in the late 1800s and early 1900s; these are loosely called “Progressives” as they aimed to use government policies or science to improve and advance society. Also, this period was a time when the US started as a major player in international conflicts—first in the “Spanish American War and then in World War I. There were deep isolationist sentiments about such overseas entanglements, and President Wilson first has one position and then the other.
Choose and discuss (in a full paragraph or two) one of the following two topics related to the late 1800s and early 1900s.
1. In the Progressive Era (roughly 1890–1920), multiple groups advocated for reforms in various aspects of government, society, and the economy. Discuss here the “muckrakers” and Taylor’s “scientific management”.
. Explain briefly the approach and aim of the “muckrakers” and that of F. W. Taylor.
. Compare their approaches and describe your feelings about them, and relate some modern situation that reminds you of one of these approaches and reform causes.
. Identify the source(s) where you read about the reform cause.
·
From the text, Wilson did not maintain his own campaign slogan (“He kept us out of war”).
. Explain with some specifics why Wilson became pro-war. Describe your own feelings on that issue when you look back at it, and whether he was right to change.
. Briefly, identify a similar international consideration today—or of the last 20 years, and what lesson might be drawn from the example in Wilson’s time.
. Identify the source(s) where you read about Wilson.
Part 2: Respond to a Peer
Read a post by one of your peers and respond, making sure to extend the conversation by asking questions, offering rich ideas, or sharing personal connections.
Shannon Madrid
Hello class and professor,
From the text, Wilson did not maintain his own campaign slogan (“He kept us out of war”).
President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress on April 1917 for a formal declaration of war because he was faced on a difficult task and had to mobilize an unprepared America for war. The government could ask for volunteers and institute a draft to build up the army. But convincing Americans to support the war and feel the will to fight was more difficult task for Wilson.I believe that because of the start and ending of war world 1 America is more and more ready for battle and gave the civilians and military troops more of a belief that the war could be won by America.
Wilson when he was governor of new jersey in 1910, Wilson passed several progressive legislation including bills to reduce bribery of government officials, to establish the Public utility to set utility rates, and to establish a workers’ compensation programs that The federal reserve act was signed into law by President Wilson on December 23, 1913. It created and established the federal reserved systems to the central banking system of the United States of which today serves a major purpose in business and personal. The Sherman anti trust act in in 1914 made certain business practices illegal like agreements prohibiting retailers from handling other companies’ products which today is important for small business and how the products are handle and not stolen fro other competitive companies.
