You are required to carry out a critical analysis of the theory of an academic business model or concept. This may be extended outside the immediate content of the BBA6001 course, however, it may be advisable to take a model that has been presented/discussed during the course of the BD & S course.
Examples of these include but are not limited to:

Matrices such as Ansoff, McKinsey of BCG
Innovation
Service Quality
Benchmarking

The Core theory/framework is to be presented and explained (maximum of 200 words) and then critically analysed in relation to other academic research. This may well include contradictory views or perhaps differences in applications in differing domains or geographical locations. Then the link from the model/concept and its relevance to its application in the world of Hospitality and associated Industries is to be explained. It is expected that your analysis may result in a conclusion that justifies your position, either positive or negative, on the model/concept.
You are permitted to take into the exam room with you:
A maximum of 5 ACADEMIC articles. These should be academic articles from academic sources, and it is advised that these should be from research carried into in the domain that will allow you to position your critique in relation to its industry application. These should be sourced from academic databases and not business sources.
Sections of the papers that you decide to take into the exam room may have sections highlighted (using only one colour of highlighter),

hand-written notes must be added to the papers. You must request additional paper if you want to make hand-written notes in the exam room. Your 5 articles are to be handed in with your written paper, and if any hand-written notes are found on your papers, for whatever reason, your paper will receive a zero grade.
The ideas that you present in your literature review need to be referenced to the sources that you supply. So, remember that if you cite from the article itself, you can simply use the source reference itself, e.g. (Smith & Jones, 2015). If you use a direct quote from the source, it should have parentheses, and a page number reference to the source, e.g. (Smith & Jones, 2015, p.386). If you use a reference from within in the article, e.g. Porter (1985), you must reference it as (Porter, 1985, as cited in Smith & Jones, 2015). You are required to supply an APA reference list of your 5 sources. You may bring this into the exam, already printed off. If you do not bring it with you, you are required to include this in your paper. No additional paper will be given, so this will need to be included in the 4 pages allocated.

General instructions:
As this work is presented for grading, it is the student’s responsibility to provide answers in a neat and legible presentation.
Please answer the questions only in the space provided in this exam paper. There is no extra paper provided. You may use the “blank page” on the reverse side for workings out – which will not be graded.
Specific instructions:
· 1. You are allowed to take a maximum of 5 articles into the exam room with you. You can take all of each of the articles, or as much of its content as you feel is important to you completing the assessment. These are then to be used to construct the literature review of your chosen subject. It is expected that the word count will be approximately 1000 words.
· 2. You are not allowed to highlight any sections of the articles until you enter the exam room. You will be supplied with a highlighter.
· 3. Any additional writing on any page of the articles that you take into the exam with you will be deemed as pre-preparation and will not be permitted. Contravention of either this regulation or no.2 will result in your paper receiving a zero grade.
· 4. You are required to staple each of the articles in the top left-hand corner, and then to number them 1-5.
· 5. You are also permitted to take in a pre-prepared reference list. This should comply with APA standards. This is to be submitted when you hand in your final paper. If you do not bring it with you into the exam room, you will need to add it to your written paper, and as there is a maximum of 4 pages of space in which to complete your 1000 words, there may not be sufficient room.
6. The literature review is required to include in text referencing to APA standards in addition to the reference list as noted above.
7. All of the papers, the reference list, and your written paper are to be handed in at the end of the exam. You will be required to sign that you have submitted your papers, and this will confirm that you have understood, and agreed to these specifications.

Revised Examination Cover Sheet – Master All Campuses 2018
Dear all,
As you are now aware, you have not passed the BD&S course and you have to do a resit of the final exam. This takes the form of an 800-word literature review on a new subject to the one that you based your final exam on. As previously, you are allowed to bring 5 academic articles into the exam room as well as a pre-prepared reference list. The exam is 90 minutes long. Please see below the resit exam document, a copy of which will be given to you in the exam room. You will see that the special instructions are identical to the final exam.
