INTRODUCTION SPEECH ASSIGNMENT – Option 2 – About Me

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

· To demonstrate communication techniques in a public speaking context.

· To begin to create your identity and persona in the class.

· To demonstrate the ability to organize information and present it in a structured manner.

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

The theme of this speech is, ‘What makes me, me.’ Tell us three things that define you. What values, beliefs, traditions, and customs are a part of who you are? What is your family’s background? What experiences shaped you?

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare and present a short speech (3-4 minutes) and include the following:

· Three overall, distinct speech parts: An introduction, a body, and a conclusion.

· Three clear main points in the body: Three things about you.

· An outline submitted at the time of your presentation: MLA format using guide below (remember to bring TWO copies of your outline to class!).

OUTLINE FORMAT

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

· Practice, Practice, Practice. Take the time to become familiar with what you are going to say. Practicing is an important component in meeting the time guidelines.

·
Avoid
reading to us or memorizing your speech. Practice extemporaneous speaking.

· Formulate an introduction to begin your speech and leave with a brief concluding statement. “That’s all I’ve Got” is NOT acceptable.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

This speech is worth 5% of your grade. Your grade is determined as follows:
