ONE:
1. While conducting research and working with my team I was able to develop a couple competencies that will help me improve as a leader. My communication competency was and still not the best through cross platform communication (email and discussion boards). I still find myself writing as I would talk. My competency has improved, and I am consistently working on this skill which in turn is more professional in corporate America. Secondly, my critical thinking skills improved as I was researching into the market analysis portion of the comprehensive assignment. ToolsCorp has a lot of segments in which they operate and deciphering the data became more difficult as you began to dig further into those. This competency is vital in comprehending data we are given every day. As a leader I am asked to balance multiple tasks and the critical thinking skill I have gained will help me prioritize those tasks better the more I use this competency.
2. The essential elements of strategy are vision, mission, core values, and goals. Goals are defined before the vison and will tell how the vision will be achieved. The vision and mission are going to tell the company’s story. The vison describes the goal for the employees and will continuously need to be reviewed. The mission or mission statement is describing the company to the consumer and the shareholders. Finally, the core values describe the beliefs of the company and the current beliefs of the CEO. These beliefs need to be aligned with the vison and mission ensure success.

1. What competencies were you able to develop in researching and writing the course Comprehensive Project? How did you leverage knowledge gained in the intellipath assignments (Units 1- 4) in completing the Comprehensive Project? How will these competencies and knowledge support your career advancement in management?
Some of the competencies I was able to develop upon would include time management, working with a team through the use of e-mail and DB’s, and gaining a clearer picture to what a proper strategy plan should look like. During this course, my wife had to undergo a couple of surgical procedures, I was having to work some weird hours, and then try to find time to get all of my assignments in for this class, as well as, the other class I was taking. Needless to say, there were some late nights with early mornings to get everything accomplished. Some of the lessons within Intellipath were beneficial when trying to think strategically about which actions to take, and in what order. Sometimes seeing something on a piece of paper is easier to plan for, than having taskings in your head and trying to spin them into a direction that leads you right back where you started.
2. What are the important elements of strategy? Why?
Some of the important elements of a strategy should include a vision and mission statement, having the right people assigned to do a specific role, and knowing the requirements from the company’s vendors. The vision and mission statements will give the company a direction for the company to go in. Having the right people in the right roles will allow for contingency plans to be implemented if needed, as well as having those with knowledge and experience to be called upon when something does go wrong. And knowing who their vendors are and what they will require in order to get the products to the finish line. Things such as timelines, raw materials, and scheduling need to be viewed and reminded to reduce any gaps in time.
3. What issues may arise if your do not identify all the potential disadvantages of your plan?
There could be several issues, and at time all at once, if potential disadvantages are not discussed. Issues such as not having enough inventory on hand, or in transit, trucks breaking down, personnel not be available, machines (including computers) break down, or not having the updated software to run the computers and machines.
4. Why is it crucial to provide both proactive (during the implementation) and reactive (after completing the implementation) feedback to management?
Providing feedback during the implementation, as well as, after the the product is complete is very crucial. During the implementation, you are able to identify the intent of the product and make changes, if available. After the product is complete, it becomes difficult to make changes to the final product. All of the feedback given to management can direct which direction to go allowing fewer modifications to be made during the production process. This can save the company money through the usage of raw materials being used, and man hours needed to make the product.
