Many eating disorders can be traced back to psychoneuretic causes. While these causes might lead to lack of body weight, it is clear that they lead to negative perceptions towards food especially by women. Anorexia is one of the major disorders that can be traced back to these causes in people. Psychological factors aimed at achievement of perfectionism can distort ones logical reasoning leading to the development of habits and thoughts that encourage other people not to have normal lifestyles. There is a need to develop a way in which an individual can perceive reality in a proper way without encouraging them to engage in ways that are unhealthy. While biological causes have been identified to have a major influence on how a perceives diet, it is evident that cognitive distortion of reality can affect ones thoughts hence influence their eating behavior. Factors such as low self esteem, persistence stress and depression can be attributed as causative factors leading to these disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa is in simply terms, an extreme of becoming fat or the fear of gaining weight. The term anorexia nervosa literally means “lack of appetite induced by nervousness.” Butcher, J. N, Hooley, J. M. (2014). This disorder will cause a person to have very low body weight. Like anorexia, bulimia is also an eating disorder. Both give an individual a distorted body image of themselves. Though both are eating disorders, they are different in that anorexia is a lack of food, whereas bulimia in a large amount of food intake. Although there is a big food intake with bulimia, it is eventually followed by purging. Vomiting the food back up, in order to prevent weight gain.
