Interpersonal Conflict Analyses

OBJECTIVES:

This is a series of analysis papers that you will complete throughout the semester using the material from each module.

  1. Choose one person with whom you have experienced conflict in the past. Use this same person/conflict for each of the four papers instead of writing about different conflicts with different people for each paper. This allows you to thoroughly analyze the situation by the end of the semester.
  2. Write about the situation using various course material as a “lens” to analyze the conflict.
  3. Use the questions provided as prompts to analyze the situation, but do not include the questions in your paper.  Use essay format to answer the questions.

Guidelines: All papers should be at least TWO FULL PAGES but no more than five pages and have a clear intro, body, and conclusion in APA format. Be sure to spell-check and also check for sentence structure issues and grammar usage before you submit the paper.

Here are some questions to consider but you are not required to answer all these questions. Definitely discuss conflict spirals and TRIP goals.

1. How does the other person feel about your feelings on the conflict?
2. How do you think the other person feels about you?
3. What would you like to accomplish from this conflict?
4. How would you like to see it resolved? What are your goals?
5. What do you feel the other person thinks your goals are?
6. Do (did) you interfere (current or past) with what you think the other person’s goals are? If so, how?

12. Are there other people who have become involved in your conflict? Do these people feel that they need to take sides in this dispute?
13. How did these people influence your decisions and behaviors?
14. Has this conflict become a destructive conflict? Does it waver between a constructive conflict and a destructive conflict, or does it only follow one type of conflict exclusively? Has it always been this way?
