Informed consent is classified into two parts; information and consent. Information denotes to disclosure and understanding to be divulged, however relating to the consent the patient can merely offer informed consent to an imposition of act where they are involved, get a complete disclosure, and they are fully capable to apprehend the disclosure, and are aware of the consequences and on their own accord act to act according to the intervention. Health care professionals are likely to provide acceptable sum of facts to a patient/client in advance to implementation of treatment method which includes hazards correlated with that action. This makes the patient to make a conscious decision whether to proceed with the treatment. For making this conscious decision patients do require a wide-ranging of information before approaching to a final decision: threats and benefits, undesirable and affirmative effects, approaches and justifications of treatment. (Cvetkovic, 2016) Although informed consent’s ethical influence importance for making aware patient is held to be insignificant matter, the entire process of informed consent has led to various ethical issues encountered by the traditional healthcare practice. In this research proposal we will be focusing on ethical issues encountered in the practice of obtaining informed consent from patients and on how health professionals should handle these processes effectively.

Background

Giving information to the patients and seeking their consent is crucial to make sure that accord of patient is acquired and not merely assumed. Where it is not possible for the patient to give their consent, their interest and care should be properly taken. The healthcare professionals are obliged to confirm to the Human Rights Act (1998) articles. In relating to the health issues emergencies matter, a patient’s medical care opinion will largely rely what is obtained through informed obtained through medical professional. Not conveying the process of informed consent properly, a patient might believe, they have not obtained the proper care needed.

Ethical decision making is a technique in course of which just morals of general public are fetched to stand on the understanding that show the way to explicit choice. For healthcare to meritoriously poise the interest and requirements of people, the social order and organizations, decision-making becomes an important component of the healthcare delivery process. The most important thing is clinicians have to provide information in such a way which would help a patient or their relative make a rational well-informed decision taking into consideration and evaluating various options. A patient must clear all their queries and questions before arriving and taking a rational and conscious decision without any kind of pressure. (Beauchamp, 2015) However the patient’s consciousness relating to the understanding of the medical procedure is mostly inconstant, exclusive, and instable. The information delivered by a medical professional to a patient must include explaining all risks and benefits. On the other hand, the exhaustive explanation need not reach the irrationality and impracticality level. On exploring the usage of ethical circumstances deduces that these ethical issues need to be examined by medical practitioner which may perhaps not be clear.

The proposed research proposal will examine the ethical implications for the need of informed consent to be obtained by the patient for taking a rational decision which must be devoid of any form of coercion or persuading from the health care specialists. The patient has the legitimate right for declining the recommended treatment if they are incapacitated emotionally to take a decision. Medics in particular situations can take immediate decision in case of critical emergencies devoid of their consent. While then, patients may be in a situation where they have their individual capacity for making their own decision to refuse or to accept treatment. For that reason, consent is an important principle in the relationship between patients and their healthcare providers. In the proposed research paper, we will examine informed consent ethical applications in healthcare setting by evaluating various scholarly research studies. (Cvetkovic, 2016)
