#2: To obtain the necessary transportation capabilities in a short timeframe, what type of software purchase option should myIoT pursue?  Explain.

The software purchase option that myIoT, Inc. should pursue would be a SaaS application.  This is an Internet based service where the software is accessed online and there is no need to have it installed on site.  This is a less expensive option than purchasing software and licenses, and it allows access to the outside vendors.  It is also cheaper than hosted software.  Based on the cloud location, the setup time is faster, which is what myIoT needs for a two-month turnaround. 

#3: What types of technology implementation challenges might myIoT face?  How can these risks be minimized?

Application integration would pose a challenge.  Since there is a short time-frame, ensuring all partners are “up and running” could be their biggest issue.  There will need to be a training period for all that access the data.  Should any of their vendors not have the same capabilities, this could throw off their entire operation.  Also, due to the variety of systems organizing and sharing information might be a problem.  MyIot would need to work with its supply chain partners and vendors to ensure they are all capable using the chosen TMS and begin to implement it right away.  This will allow extra time to make changes and enforce training sessions.

My Iot should pursue a well designed TMS software system. This system specializes in planning the flow of materials across the supply chain. It’s the core of routing, rating, and, executing shipments across multiple modes tracking, load tracing, and freight settlement. The capabilities and scope of TMS expands the software to a much more integrative system. It provides support for transportation strategic, tactical, and operational planning, as well as delivery execution, in transit visibility and performance evaluation. TMS also supports appointment scheduling, metrics monitoring, and freight bill auditing.

3. Whats types of technology implemenation challenges might my iot face? How can these risks be minized?

My Iot could potentially loose time in wages, delay of shipment, and possibly loose business with customers, but these risks could be minimized by implementing better planning, develop training within your team, create effective structure and monitor the technology program by following these simple steps below to correct system and human error as they occur:

· Secure the commitment of senior management 

· Remember that it is not just an information technology project

· Align the project with business goals 

· Understand the software capabilites 

· Select partners carefully

· Follow a proven implementation methodology 

· Take a step by stern approach for incremental value gains

· Be prepared to change business process

· Keep end users informed and involved 

· Measure success with key performance indications

Are autonomous trucks a potential answer to driver shortage problems that plague VEN’s transportation providers? Why or why not?

The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHSTA) defines five levels of autonomous driving from a level from 0-5. 0 meaning full human control and 4, 5 meaning fully autonomous system that expects the same or equal performance as humans. As of today, there are currently no level 4, 5 vehicles on the road and further, it isn’t expected any time soon (10-15 years). Currently there are level 2 and 3 in testing on roads, test tracks and test highways, but again these vehicles require human interaction. Vital-E nutrition (VEN’S) isn’t necessarily having issues with driver shortages to get their product delivered, the problem they are having as stated, Sammy, saving $100 per truckload delivery doesn’t do us a bit of good if we lose a shipment or a customer (Novack.Gibson.Suzuki.Coyle.2018.p81). Like the CEO mentioned to Sammy, stop looking for the cheapest rate and look for a company who can deliver our product. Sammy’s next step is to brainstorm and find a company who can deliver.

What value could VEN derive from the analytics capabilities being embedded in a state-of-the-art TMS?

With the spoiled product costing the company $250,000, routine missed deliveries and the possibilities of losing customers, it is important that Sammy reaches out to a specialist who specializes in state-of-the-art TMS or does the research himself. Next generation TMS have evolved, with better visibility means new opportunities to streamline transportation networks while achieving greater cost – and time efficiency (Novack.Gibson.Suzuki.Coyle.2018.p76). Since Sammy likes to save money and the CEO is very concerned about making sure things are delivered on time, TMS would be a good option to organize there business logistics. Further with proper training or hiring of personnel or vendor to maintain this function, TMS software can provide analytics tools that provide machine learning and fast processors that can quickly evaluate the options and needs for transportation for the company. Also this TMS platform will allow transportation providers, brokers and customers to make decisions based on data and statistics. VEN should benefit from TMS, now it’s up to Sammy to do the research and present his findings to the CEO. Good Luck Sammy!

Yes, autonomous trucks can be a potential answer to the driver shortage problems that is currently troubling VEN’s transportation provider. Although completely autonomous trucks are not quite a reality yet, many are looking to driverless semis as one of the more promising truck driver shortage solutions. VEN can use one of those carriers that makes use of autonomous trucks along with the expertise and technology that is required to carry the temperature-sensitive liquid and powder nutritional supplements being sold by VEN. Autonomous truck will ensure that there is no delay of shipments due to shortage of drivers at any point of time and that all deliveries are made as schedule.

3. What value could VEN derive from the analytics capabilities being embedded in a state-of-the-art TMS? 

The analytical capabilities will enable the company to better plan, execute, and optimize the physical movement of its goods. Value addition will occur in the form of improved shipment efficiency, reduction in costs, and real-time supply chain visibility. this will have a positive impact on the company’s revenue as well as profits.
